Re: 6 speed swap

Sorry but I've done it, and my daily commute is roughly 130 miles round trip. Paying $1500-2000 to upgrade the transmisson in a Mustang to go fromroughly 23ish MPG to 26MPG on the highway is a minimal gain. Paying $2500 for a 10-12 year old Civic or similar & going from 23ish MPG to 35-40MPG is a HUGE difference...

And the insurance cost would be negated by the fact that insurance on the Honda as DD would be a fraction of that for the Mustang as a DD. By reducing your annual mileage on the mustang to a low number & insuring the Civic-like vehicle as the high-milage DD you're going to basically break even in the cost for insurance as you were paying to insure the Mustang as a DD alone.

I could further work out the numbers for you but I guarantee it would be cheaper to have an efficient DD then you can dump all the money you save into the Mustang. Then you can make a truly great track car out of it rather than a pieced together combo of a DD & track car that is just OK at both but not great at either.

Ultimately it's the OP's decision & if it's something he REALLY wants to do, then go for it. I am just trying to give him another perspective.

Lol this thread makes me smile... I feel important as if you all are genuinely concerned about saving me from my self thank you all for your input ....

You all bring up valid points...
At the end of the day there are a few high dollar investments I would like to make in the car such as

Big brake upgrade kit
Blower or n/a build
Full Suspension
Wheels n tires
Tranny
And few more cosmetic
Most importantly driver mod (racing school)

If all goes well w a few sales I'm working on I will have it all plus a new GT500

Thank you again for your help... I will do some more research in the meantime

I do not know what mods you have, or are planing on. You need to consider that. The 6th sp trans has a 2.99 1st gear, the 5sp has a 3.38 1st gear, so you will have drive ability problems with 3.55 rear if you are N/A. If you are F/I it will be OK. I am N/A with close ratio 6sp custom trans 4:30 rear 28 1/2" tall tire and getting 26 mph highway. PM me if you want more info and let me know what your mods are.
I am installing a t56 magnum in my car. Close ratio 2.66 first with a .63 6th. I am wonder what your 6th gear ratio is. Also if you would I was wondering what rpms in 6th. I am having a hard time deciding on rear gear ratio. I can swap 5th and 6th to get the .50 gear. This is an additional $400. Thanks for your time if you reply
