IM planning to get a CAI and that will need a tuner. Will It be better to just take it to a dyno shop instead of a tuner. I never used one before. Any suggestion on type of brands. I have a 06 GT and it has magna flow exhaust

In your case def get a tuner, Dyno is only for completely modded cars

I would call around to your local speed and find out what kind they use. SCT or diablo and buy that one, that way they can help you with problems

Re: Planning to get a CAI

I have both those on my cars, I use the SCT on my Mustang GT, and I use the Diablosport Preditor on my Camaro, which the wife drives. Both are nice. I went with the Steeda CAI with the High Flo Elbo Carbon Fiber. Got Pics inside.

Just buy a tuner - CAI combo deal from any of the places that sell them... BBR someone mentioned, is good, American Muscle/ BAMA is good- the key is customer service. Call and talk to them, and go with whoever takes the time to be helpful.

AM and BAMA were great about tech support for me. If I can use the tuner ( I got the JLT CAI and an SCT) anyone can do it.

Kato,

Hey "Jayjay", I got the SCT and Steeda CAI, from "Mustang Specialties" Shop in Pompano, FL. when I got the work done on my Mustang. Also the "Steeda" Auto shop is also in Pompano, FL. The AirAid CAI and Diablosport Tuner, I got from Murrays Performance shop in Miami, FL. On the Mustang, I got a Custom Tune done, by the shop. On the Camaro, I did that Tune myself, by the Tune that's already programed inside, I've been debatting on getting that Tune "Customed".

Get a tuner, but the dyno is not for "completely modded cars." Dynos assist with verifying your tuner settings. Tuners are set for default 0:0 A/F ratio. That may not be what your engine needs. You might be running too rich,or worse, too lean. Trust me, I have a live wire tuner. I took it to a dyno and learned more about my engine than just plugging in a tuner. the tuner allowed me to move past the stock specs, but reminded me that I was in the relm of custom tuning. Nothings easy.

I too have and SCT with emailed tunes, however I did bring my 08 GT to a custom tuner who worked with me, and explained why some email tunes don't work for everyone.

Re: Planning to get a CAI

I installed an S&B CAI a couple weeks ago and love it!

It's a non-tune required CAI but I've seen a great throttle response, HP boost, and just looks so much better than stock! $200
