Just got a 2007 mustang gt premium

ok this is my first mustang ever.Ihave never had a fast car like this and I love it.So i need some opinions from you guys.First I want to make it louder the stock gt pipes suck.I want my car to be heard when i step on it but I dont want it to blow your ear drums.Im looking for some pipes that are loud and sound good but dont cost a ton of money.Second is there anything to increase fuel economy with loosing power.Third anything else you guys would suggest on me adding to my mustang.

Re: Just got a 2007 mustang gt premium

Welcome to the Mustang community and to ME.

If you want a good quality, stainless exhaust for relatively cheap then I say Magnaflows are the way to go. They aren't that loud of an aftermarket exhaust though but they do have a nice tone and you will hear them when you really want to. Borla and Bassani also make good quality pieces that are louder than the maggies. Also check out Flowmaster, JBA, MAC, etc. Everybody I've ever known with Dynomax exhausts really like them. I know someone with a Dynomax exhaust on a 03 Cobra and it sounds very nice. Go with whatever you think sounds best. Just please don't get SLP LM's.

Here are some exhaust clips for you to listen to, even though watching them on the computer normally doesn't do them justice.

Re: Just got a 2007 mustang gt premium

Whatever you do, don't buy JBA. They sound great, but are complete junk. The fit on them is horrible. I'm about to take them off my '06 because I'm sick and tired of the incessant rattling. I've tried everything imaginable to get it to stop, but they simply don't fit the car.

Since the mufflers are visible from the rear of the car, I chose Pypes model sfm60vs because they are polished 304 stainless mufflers with polished 304 stainless tips from Brenspeed for $239.95. Love the sound and the look.

Re: Just got a 2007 mustang gt premium

Now, back to your second question. Did you really buy this car for the economic factor? I would have to say if you go a little easier on the loud pedal, your fuel economy will improve. I, like most other GT owners have the same problem, but it does get much better mileage than my Avalanche. With that being said, I didn't buy mine for the economy either, so i am quite pleased with what mileage I get.
As for other add-ons, pick up about any Mustang, or Ford mag out there, and you will find a world of add ons. Me personally I plan on adding some 18 inch chrome wheels, a chrome or stainless front strut tower brace, K & N intake, lower control arms, a billet grill and other interior billet add ons.

By the way, Welcome to the site!

becareful as the 05+'s dont see neraly as much of a difference in swaping exhaust systems (mufflers). Everyone I hear is no where near loud enough.

The borla system sounds quite nice. Not too loud but definitely noticable.

I have JBA Exhaust, Xpipe and Headers... My car sounds mean I must say. Sometimes I do notice a little rattle though... when the car is first started... hmmm... Anywho, with that said, I'm getting about 23-25 MPG on the Highway, depending on the distance... Average 20 in the city. Not bad eh? :] I means, it's no 40 MPG that my rangers gets. heh...

Re: Just got a 2007 mustang gt premium

Most systems for the 3V motors are pretty tame at idle, which i generally prefer anyway...

My Borla system (albeit pricey) is my favorite sounding system for them...It purrs like a big cat at idle, and when you stomp the gas, it roars like a son of a *****...

I can't speak from experience on the SN197's, but MGW makes some amazing shifters. I love mine in my '02.

Re: Just got a 2007 mustang gt premium

first welcome to the site. For exhaust My pick is Flowmasters, not everyone's first cause they're not the best but sound great and are cheap. as they said Breenspeed.com is a great web site. some other mods on the cheap are a K&N CAI and/or SCT tuner all things I have on my car.

another great mod for an 05+ thats not friendly on gas mil. but make the car a lot more fun is 4.10s in the rear. with all the mods on my car I get around 17.5 city

I love the roush shifter to be honest...It probably reduces the throw more than any of the other aftermarket shifter brands out there for the S197's...

My only complaint was that it was really stiff for the first couple of months after i put it in...It wouldnt "slip" into gear perfectly every time...but I gave the setup a chance to settle and retightened all bolts and everything and havent had any problems since...It shifts smooth as silk and i love it...

Its so short in fact that when I first got it, I had a helacious time shifting from 2-3...I kept going from 2-5, oops....and the 1-2 shift is nothing more than a flick of the wrist...

eh, youre asking a lot to get a half-second improvement out of just a shifter...I dont know of any shifter on earth that will get that kind of improvement on 1/4 times...At most, I would say maybe a quarter-second improvement, but its probably really only like 1 or 2 tenths, which is still a significant improvement...

I may actually be selling my shifter before long...I run my mustang in a stock-class for autocross and my shifter is technically "illegal" from the stock rules standpoint...It hasnt been a problem in the past because I haven't been running on the National Tour, just doing Regional Events...but for 2008, I am making the jump to Nationals and I will probably end up having to take it out so that nobody pitches a fit about my having illegal mods for the class...

heh, well ... if time comes ... hmmm, Vicksburg... How far is that from Memphis, in the 3 hour range? and what do you think you'd want for it? I prefer to buy from someone that has already worn it in that cares for there car rather a new one that'll be stiff on me for a month.

you can get that much of an improvement from changing the shifter.

but you have to change the arm grasping the shifter. not the metel part

Good point...That loose screw behind the steering wheel changes everything...

And as far as the shifter goes, it will probably but sometime in mid-late january before I have time to work on the car and take it out...Vicksburg is right at 3 hours from Memphis +/- 15 minutes depending on speed, traffic, etc...I was probably going to ask about $125ish for it...I paid $225 for it brand new and have had it about a year now...

Putting SLP parts on a Ford is like putting Ford Racing parts on a Chevy. You use to could get new Camaro SS's and T/A's with SLP parts factory. Infact I believe that SLP built the Firehawks. If I'm not mistaken when they quit making f-bodies SLP had to expand their market so that they wouldn't die out and they started making parts for Mustangs. Their also VERY LOUD. Their LM1 is probably the loudest aftermarket system you can buy. IMO its so loud that it doesn't sound very good. Still their very quality, nice looking parts and people have told me that their mid-pipes are really nice.

Not all of them...there were however some SLP edition SS's with different options.

If I remember right the SLP SS's had the center exhaust out the back with the different rear valence along with a few other cosmetic things, I have no idea on power difference though.
