Hi All, quick question regarding traction?

Hey Guys,

I was doing some searching around but didn't find what I was searching for so I thought i'd ask directly. Okay, I have an 05 Mustang GT Premium. It was K&N filter, JBA Exhaust, Stock Headers, X-Pipe ... I think that's all i've done to it so far... Here's my problem ... Traction.

- I don't have positive traction so off the line I basically turn around (exaggeration) and I spin through 3rd gear it seems... I'd love to eliminate this problem but outside of ..
  • Positive Traction
    Tires
    Air pressure

I'm not just real sure what else to do. I'd like to stick a new rear end on, but I don't even know where to being. I was hoping maybe you guys could give me some thoughts, maybe point me in the right direction? If I could eliminate the spin out alltogether, that'd be great :].Thanks in advance...

Re: Hi All, quick question regarding tranction?

Lower Control Arms and an Upper Third link would be your best bets on 05+ mustands in order to increase traction...With your mod's, you aren't making enough power to warrant doing a full rearend replacement...

My suggestion would be LCA's, Upper 3rd, Rearend Girdle, and sticky tires (i.e. Drag Radials or a really aggressive street tire)...

I believe that all 05 GT's have a locking diff in them, so "positive traction" is not your problem...All cars, with or without "positive traction" will step out to one side or the other, which is caused by several factors...but I won't get into the exact physics behind that...

Thanks for the quick reply...

- Seems straight forward and I'm not sure what questions to ask ... I really appreciate it. If there's anything else i should consider doing, i'm all ears... I'd like to build it for the quarter mile. That's my end goal..

Re: Hi All, quick question regarding tranction?

What all comes on a Stage 2 as far as power? Is it S/C-ed?

Again, your best bet really would some stout LCA's, upper 3rd link, and Rearend *edit* Girdle...

Thanks brad

...lol that's funny. Ah, I think the stage 2 is just the suspension package which puts me low to the ground anyway.

You might also want to feather it out of the hole the cheapest and easiest option.

Re: Hi All, quick question regarding tranction?

The 05s are starting to get a better aftermarket for suspension. I would read up on maximummotorsports.com as they are rather good in the aftermarket for your handling needs. You can talk with them about what upgrades you should do for your needs and they can help guide you in the right direction.

+1 for MM, I have their upper/lower control arms + bushings in my 92...

Your best bet for traction is TIRES, I know people dislike them but I had a set of nitto drag radials on my 02 GT, it went from spinning through third to bogging on the shift to second + they lasted about 14k miles, and were still good when the car was tboned

the 92 has a set of BFG TA drag radials but they're as bald as slicks now, and are doing worse on grip than ever... 348 ft lbs of torque though and they still don't spin unless I want them to... err yeah my point was though, they only lasted 6200 miles...

Re: Hi All, quick question regarding tranction?

yeah, that's my problem. i drive accross the Memphis Tn. Bridge everyday to go to work and it tends to rain quite a bit in the fall / winter season. But you're right, I think if I had something would heat up I wouldn't really have a problem. I think that I have around 330HP. Guestimate... I raced a buddy with a gt right at 300hp. He has a short throw shifter and some stickies ... (not sure of the tire) and he pretty dusted me ... 2 car lengths easy. Spinning through third just isn't cutting it.

I had zero problem in the rain with the nittos for the first 10k miles, I actually got better traction than the stock tire...

Re: Hi All, quick question regarding traction?

I hear nitto's are a great choice. which one's do you have? I'm looking at the NT555RII tires. I guess I just need two for the back ... I'm sort of OCD so I may get a set just to match it up.

Re: Hi All, quick question regarding traction?

I had the NT555Rs only... But I'm considering a set of IIs since my BFGs are wasted...

I had a bit over 14k miles on those nittos at the time of the wreck

You can see the tread had just started disappearing in the center of the tire...

sorry for the crappy pic, it was at the wrecking yard..
