When to rebuild 4.6L

What mileage would you think the 4.6l would require a rebuild? Thinking of getting a Kenne bell in a year or so and wonder if I should rebuild first. Currently have 120K miles motor. Any advice would be helpful

There's really no need to rebuild the engine unless it breaks. I would recommend doing the rebuild when you do the blower. Definitely look into a fully forged kit if your looking to make serious boost.

+1
I've already heard of these motors being reliable up to 200,000. Just wait til you need to go forged. Eagle rods just announced a stroker kit with all forged internals that pushes these to 301ci. Something to look into.

Thanks for the info. I am going to check the prices on the forged kit. That is something new I had not heard about.

Too much stuff to do and too little money. 😁

talk to AL at Promar Performance Engines !!
that is who did my engine build and has been 100% reliable pushing 16.5 psi and they gave me a one year unlimited mile warranty ( unheard of for highly modified engine ) for a great price even free shipping DD

talking to him is free and after talking to him you will be happy to do business with them.

here is a dyno vid of my car with the Promar Prerformance engine,

Just good ol valvoline , running amsoil in Stang tho. My buddys late model race truck runs a Robert yates motor, it picked up 10hp on engine dyno with amsoil.

You should be fine! I know of guys who have 100k mile SC'd dd's. It's all in the tune and how you drive. I had an 04' with a vortech pushing 477 rwhp as a dd for two years and put 20k on it with no problems

I have been looking at the Kenne Bell's Stage 2 SC. Check out their website. 7k but you get everything, throttle body, tune and you don't have to tap the oil pan.

To be honest beating on a car is good for it I think, look at all those old folks driving a crown Vic burning massive oil when they leave the red light at 70k even tho they change the oil every 3k and what ever else the dealer sales them!!!! haha just something to ponder

Agreed. Getting the engine temps up and keeping the seals wet, and the bearings worm properly all make a difference. I ran my 96 gt hard and it ran like a top until I sold it.

It makes a lot of sense.. I babied my car for almost a year and it kept running rough and having idle problems and WOT problems and stuff.. So now I drive like I stole it so I can eventually trash the engine and replace it but all the problems are gone! Idle is perfect, no hiccuping, no lapses in power.. Everything is smooth as silk and good to go. Haha. Weird..

I would rebuild , before it gets trashed. I've had 8 new Fords and ran the dog piss outta all them from day one. Only trouble I've ever had other than mait , was an auto trans at 290 k. No engine trouble at all.

I admit, I have good mojo with ford. I couldn't get 500 miles on a new Chevy.
