Where are the engineers on here? How about it Ktwisted?

The weight of the wheel will ALWAYS outdo the tire regardless if the diameter is the same.

In that article they lost 10 WHP just from going to 20s from 17s. Not 15whp but it will increase with the weight of the wheels.

Short of hyper lightweight 20's, they will rob HP

"...The test ride in this story suffered a 10hp loss when the stock 17-inch wheels and tires were replaced with a 20-inch combination. A mere 3 inches in wheel diameter can bring on performance-killing weight..."

Weight seems to be the cause not diameter

Not sure if you would even feel the 10 hp over the joy of having awesome looking wheels anyway haha

Diameter will kill HP more often than not because HP is a multiplication of torque through the RPM range which will decrease with the longer diameter.

This isn't ALWAYS the case though as on our old forum, a Turbo Scion tC dynoed 18WHP MORE when going from 17s to 20s.

I have also not argued against the look of 20s. I would like 20 inch Shelby CS67s once I am S/C but I would add 4.30s at that as well.

:

Maybe you have more knowledge about the relationship between hp and tq (which is by no means an impossibility) but I have no Idea what that meant.

Either way you just said yourself that this Scion gained power from the larger wheels which really kinda nullifies your argument anyways right?

I said robs HP on OUR cars. So, no. Not nullified.

Also, to try and simplify what I said, engines do not make HP. They only produce torque. HP is served by multiplying torque across the RPM range. Depending on each cars characteristics, it can occasionally increase HP on the car. It will generally decrease the rate at which the car creates HP during torque multiplication.

Well I guess your knowledge is on a whole different level lol.

I challenge you only to learn, not to argue. But I think I've come to a road block. I'm trying as hard as I can to follow you, but maybe I'll understand it after I started my engineering classes next semester. no need to derail this thread with anymore question from me on this topic.

I'm not arguing. Just discussing. I think it gets conveyed when there are opposing views.

Engineering always interests me
