Can i cahange manual trans fluid??

I have a 2006 mustang GT with 93k miles, would it be safe to change the transmission fluid? I have always been told it can hurt to change the fluid with that many miles on a auto but does that apply with manuals also? Thanks for the help.

No you'll be fine, just use mercon V, don't use royal purple, it's bad for the trans

Mercon V is one of the best fluids out there. Ford specifically recommends, and it's been tested. I even use it in my power steering.

Hard to read ,but did not see anything neg about RP, do you have a list of products and the amount of sulfur contained in each.

I didn't bother building a case for royal purple, it might be ok or it might not, I know RP is expensive, mercon 5 is not, so you'd have to show me the benefits that out way the risk

Well that is BS, you are the one that posted that RP was bad and that Tremec said it was bad because of the sulfur. You made the statement, so you should know what the sulfur level is in the RP ver the Mercon. BTW i do not use RP, i use mercon

Its not harmful to change the fluid in high mileage transmissions. the method used for changing fluids can be damaging for older transmissions depending on the technique used. I used to have to change / refill the fluid on my old truck all the time before I traded it in and most oil change shops wouldn't touch it because they fairs their methods would kill the Tran, but I could take it to a transmission place and they would do it because of the method used. They ended up teaching me so I could do it myself. Love those guys. long story short, you'll be fine

The reason you don't change the fluid on a high mileage trans if it's never been changed is because it's possible that the clutches are extremely worn and the clutch material suspended in the old fluid is what's keeping it going and changing the fluid will cause it to slip, this is what I'm told, applies to autos only btw

Re: Can i cahange manual trans fluid??

I've also heard that RP is not so good with transmissions. My local speed shop that did my 5 speed conversion used redline. It's supposed to be really good. They told me theyve see too many trans failures with RP and they've also seen cases of motors blowing using RP fluid. So I returned the RP tranny fluid that I bought and they put redline in instead.

Royal Purple for immediately after purchase. It made the gears very smooth immediately. More so when warm. I recommend it.

Changing the fluid was also very, very easy.
