05-09 or 11+

Should I save up another year for a 5.0 or just go for a s-197 gt? Right now I have a v6 and have had it over 2 years so I'm ready for a v8 just not sure if it's worth waiting another year or so. Btw my car is at 97.5k miles right now

I would say save up and wait. You'll love the 5.0. I have a 2010 and don't regret buying it because I was coming from a v6 and wanted to learn a lot about modding and it's easier for me to play around with a 2010 that's fully paid for than a new 5.0 that I would have payments on. In any case, my v6 had 160,000 miles on it and I could have kept it for another year if I wanted to, but I found a 2010 with many options at a price I couldn't pass up. I'll keep my 2010, mods it up and maybe after 160,000 miles buy a 2015 or whatever 5.0.

Theres really no comparison between the 2, driving my buddies 07gt vs my 11gt, pretty different cars. And the 5.0's respond just as well to mods as the 4.6's

The older body style looks better I think . But I wouldn't mind having an extra 100hp lying around.

I find that to be slightly inaccurate. CAI doesn't do squat for them and Long Tubes also seem to net very small gains on non S/C 5.0s. That being said, If he can wait and save, 5.0 all day. My times are still slightly slower than a stock 5.0 with i/full exhaust/tune and 4.10s haha

CAI you are correct but LT's easily net 15-20 whp. Aside from CAI these 5.0's respond very well.

I recall seeing something from you a day or 2 ago stating that you can't gain more than 60 whp on the 4.6's w/o sc but I know people have gotten close to 100 (if not more) whp off boltons alone.

Pretty sure the 5.0's respond even better to mods

Gotcha'. I was looking up dynos but couldn't find any. Maybe not enough around? So I was starting to worry that LTs were not doing much.

100 WHP from bolt ons on a 4.6 is a pipe dream.

They dyno 260-270 ish stock. You add intake/full exhaust/tune/cams/UDPs/Intake manifold OR CMDPs and you will NOT see 37-380 WHP 'or more'. Not trying to be mean but that is just not possible.

You can even make the argument that cams are not 'bolt on' because it involves 'opening' the engine.

Sorry, my post was unclear, I meant people were getting 100+ whp on the 5.0's with just boltons

I'm pretty sure we're on the same page! Just saying that these 5.0's do respond excellently to mods

Ahh yes!! 100 WHP on a 5.0? I need to see this! Not for debate, more so to post on another forum if you get my drift haha.

Most dynos show 350+- bone stock. Full exhaust (~30), boss IM (~30), and a good 93 octane tune should net 450+-hp

I think that would be more like 70 gain. I say that because I have never seen a dyno lower than 380 for a 5.0. They're beasts man. I feel redundant chasing stock 5.0s mod wise lol.

Who knows could be happy dynos lol. Many of the stock dyno sheets I have seen were in the 350 area which would hold consistent with your 380 + 70. Either way we both agree that it's in the 450 range with bolt ons. Still a pretty substantial increase especially considering CAI has no effect.

'Happy Dynos' I see what you did there

Yes. Especially seeing the GT500 and what it has done recently with a tune. I can only believe that the 3V has a lot of untapped power.

To the OP, buy a 5.0 and buy tuner, boss IM, and LT's plus offroad xpipe (~$2000) and you'll be right around 450 whp!!

I kind of wish I had waited but I've had an awesome time modding my car and it's as fast as a STOCK 5.0 on short runs And Its fun to drive and turns heads all over town but my next car will for sure be a new 5.0.

I agree. I am happy with my 2010 and it turns heads. I realize at least in the city there is only so much I can use and the 2010 GT has more than enough power to get me into trouble. I just did 80 coming home in a 45 and it felt like I was doing 60 at the most. Plus I took my teenage niece on her first burnout today so lots of fun! The 5.0s will be there when u r ready for them. For now enjoy what u have and make the most of it!

Just had a guy pull up beside me at the gas station in a new 5.0 telling me how he thought my car looked and sounded so bad ***. He said he got the new 5.0 than couldn't afford all the mods he wanted lol. I'd rather have the extra $$$ to play around with my car and make it how I want than be putting all of it towards payments. Build a car the way YOU want it and you'll love it.

You can get a used 2011 with low miles for $25k from a private sale....which means you have the opportunity talk them down a bit.

This is true but private sellers dont take trade ins or provide financing.
My point is 20k or less for a clean used 05/09 GT and add for example $6000
for a Kennie Bell emissions legal S/C kit and you have a 480 whp beast for alot less then a new GT let alone a new GT plus the cost of adding some bolt ons.

True but if your talking about financing a car then your talking more than 20 k and if your scared of financing a 5.0 why would you drop 6k to maybe match it...if you can't finance a 5.0 odds are you don't have 6k to just "drop" on the 4.6...I know some may but not all...like me! Truth be told you need cash for good power. I'm a little throwed but my point is most people finance a car to what they can afford so after they do they do t have as much cash to blow on upgrades unless they planned to do so ahead of time

Shark Tales is doing a 2010 conversion on his 05-09 right now. He is also doing a 2013 headlight conversion on his brothers 05-09. I know you are a member on S197 so here is the link.
