I'm going to have a tune, just was wondering if shorty headers would get a good enough gain over stock compared to longtubes since shorty is cheaper

Long tube are better. U will and should see a 20 hp gain with shorty's and a tune but with long tube u could see twice that at 30-40 hp gain depending on what mods you already have and a good tune.

You won't see 20 HP from shorties. They only flow a little bit better than the stock manifolds if that.

Ya long tube or nothing. I have Pypes as well

Looks like longtubes it is. Does brand affect sound a whole lot? Or is it mostly fitment and quality. Think I'm gonna go bbk longtubes and catted x pipe and pypes mid muffler

Whoever told you shorties/tune net you 20hp is a buffoon. Honestly, if I had shorty headers I wouldn't tell anyone. Ford did an amazing job with their headers. Most shorties flow almost exactly the same as factory ones, some may flow worse. Just say you got them for free if anyone asks why you have them, haha!
Longtubes are a huge increase in flow though. You will absolutely see gains with a LT setup, but you'd be smart to run a tune for them. I won't quote numbers because I'm not sure what exactly you can expect, but you WILL see a significant gain.
