This is probably stupid...but I was thinking about upgrading to bigger wheels, what exactly is a spacer? The wheels I were looking at were 18x9.

Spacers go before the wheel. Pushing out the wheel the size of the spacer. For example, some people put spacers on the back to give it a staggered look ( wider in the back). Some put spacers all around for an aggressive look.

Spacers are little metal round pieces that fit between the Rim and the wheel lugs or Rotor Cover, they come in various sizes 1/4" to 2" or more. They make the wheel stand out wider looking than the wheel actually is.

Oh wow I just watched a video on it. That is awesome! Do you normally do that on all 4 tires or just the rears?

STAGGERED

Mostly just to the rear, to get the Staggered Look.
