Take the rear end apart... prob a set of spider gears. Mustangs require maintenence. Fact of life. Sounds like you've just been doing the usual stuff. Don't get frustrated. If its your only car then park it for awhile and get a beater. Oh, and a stage 4 race clutch is not for a street car at all. If you want to sell it for cheap let me know haha.

I've got to agree with a bad spider gear .

Did you add any friction modifier? The clutch packs require it. They are around $6 a bottle from ford and only take one per rear. Auto stores have some but i always stick with oem.

Rear end fluid should be changed every 50k as it will collect water from the atmosphere and stop being as effective.

Even if the clutch packs are shot it's not a hard rebuild. There should be a few videos on youtube with step by step instructions.

You just have to rebuild the locker. Still not that hard to do, it's the same procedure to replace clutch packs.

Drain diff, remove cover. Remove c clips and pull axles. Unbolt locker and remove attempting to save spacers on either side. Rebuild unit and reverse steps. If you have to pull pinion gear be sure to get a new crush washer and have backlash checked by a professional to prevent gear damage.

This would be the perfect time for a gear swap if you've been debating it.

Clutch packs slipping I don't think would make a clunck

How did you figure this out? May sound like a stupid question, but the rear end of my mustang makes a clunking noise as well and I am trying to figure out what it is. Also how much is it going to cost to fix?

Pull the cover and look. You can catch the oil and alls you'll be out is some silicone sealant. If its a gear you'll find peices in the bottom . The longer you wait, the more it will cost.

i removed my diff cover and and spun my tire with my leg so i could watch my gears move slowly and saw the spiders gears teeth were chewed up i ordered a whole new limited slip diff for 300 with the upgraded clutch carbon clutch packs amd my royal purple fluid and a gasket and i may not be done my ring and pinion look great so that is good and me rear axles still spin and posi still locks so this should be it for me but i am repairing it myself tcx4 said about 300 to 500 plus materials and i would trust him hell he knew what my problem was what exactly is your doing and when and at what speeds

When you pull the axles, you might want to stick an air hose in the end and blow it out just to make sure no pieces are lying in there. You'll be able to look inside the axle tube once It's removed. Good luck young lady
