New 05 GT owner - great avg MPG!

My 5 speed and I enjoyed a 170 mile round trip out the back windy highway to hwy 101 and down along the coast to Newport, OR last night. I love my car. This was the first chance I had to really settle into her. I kept cruise control on to a little under 60 when i could and tried to stay at a conservative launch, and ride 5th gear through the long coastal cities, aiming to keep my rpm's below 2 grand. With a 13.6 gallon fuel tank, estimate I have 1 gallon left after it registers empty, i cruised 155-160 miles to the half tank, putting me at 310-320 safely on 12.6 gallons, means I average 25.4 miles per gallon (regular gasoline).

I traded out of my 2010 Mazda 6 i touring plus, 5 speed auto 2.5 ltr 4 cyl, i bought new, which the computer said after 28k miles I averaged 24.4 mpg total life span.

This makes me more than elated. I don't think I am missing something, whats your guys' take on this, if this seems legit? This stang doesn't have a fuel estimator on it, just good old fashioned trip A.

Well congratulations on your new ride. That mileage sounds about right for a stock setup. It sounds like you and her had some time to bond and she's treating you god.

I see veteran plate and I think I see a purple heart? Thank you for your service and bravery for protecting our country.

Not a PH. Pretty sure it's an Iraq campain medal.

But yeah, that's about right for your MPG. When I first got my car, I was getting about that, then I did cams and it went down... then I did 4.10 gears and it went down again. Now I get like 23 if I'm really careful. Worth it!

I've got quite a few basic mods on my car and I'll get 25-26 mpg on a 1,000 mile trip.

It is an Iraqi campaign medal. No purple heart, thankfully, but non the less thank you very much!

i am glad to hear this. I never dreamed my dream mustang GT would get the same gas milage as my M6! Hell, even 21 would be great in my eyes. Now i kind of want to drive her hard and see what the difference is.

So this leads me to believe with basics I'm increasing slightly, if anything, and not decreasing. This makes me happier and happier everyday!

To be fair i should note that it had a K&N cold air intake, and aftermarket "H piped" dual exhaust, dont know the brand though.

I just filled up from empty for the first time. With the aforementioned trip, and todays driving up steep windy roads shifting to 3rd a lot, and also a good tow hours in city stop and go, downtown big city driving, 20.5 mpg tank average. I will not complain!

Yeah is all depends on the way you drive, I used to get 21 average, but once I got the exhaust on my car it dropped from me giving her more gas now and then

You can get a little more MPG with mods when driving normally but driving aggressively will lose some MPG since power = friction = more fuel consumed in most circumstances.

I also just got my 05 GT a few days ago. However, I haven't had the time to get out and stretch it's legs any. But, in town I've been getting around 21mpg. I was also suprised by this. The only mods done to the car were exhaust and a lowering kit.

Is that what causes it, because I've never got better than 16mpg.
