Clicking from Dash

This just started this week. I turn the key and get a rapid clicking sound for 2-3 seconds. Then it started after the engine was running, same thing maybe 3-4 seconds. It sounds almost like a CD that is trying to eject. I emptied the CD player, turned off radio and turned off AC. No change, it still does it. There is no CEL or any indication that there is a problem, car drives normal. I can shut off the car and re-start and it happens every time. Anyone have a clue?????????

Re: Clicking from Dash

Pull the fuse for the radio just to completely isolate the radio all together and see what happens.

Not the radio. After the car is running, if you switch from AC to defrost and back, it makes the clicking sound. Is there a small servo for directing vents?

lol i saw that after I finished.
i was doing a search for how to remove the radio buttons, so I can replace my stock black ones with the later chrome ring ones, but all i can remove is the Power/volume knob.

For future reference, this issue is caused by the blend door actuators for the A/C system. On the 05-09 there are 3-4 of these in the dash. Over the course of a year or two, they have teeth that break off that cause a clicking. I replaced a couple of these in my 08 Mustang.

It will do it even if the AC is off.

yeah, my '06 just started doing it.
then there was no air coming out of the dash vents, then it went CLICK CLICK CLICK & now it's working fine.
So, it'll stop working again on the hottest day of the year lol

my big brother is a mechanic, so i'll con him into fixing it 😉

thanks 👍🏼

is it hard to fix?

Depends on which one needs replacing. If you remove the glove box, you can get to 2 of them I believe on the passenger side. (Tight fit). I did not have an issue with the 2 on the driver's side so I couldn't offer any info on that.

The parts if I remember correctly, are fairly cheap.

the noise is coming from the 3rd vent (above the radio on the right side)

You could/should be able to take out the glove box/glove box door. Then you may need a flash light but if you look up inside, you should see it. I think you will need a socket wrench.
