I've heard a lot about tuners but didn't really understand what it does

What's the difference between 4.10 or 3.73 gears

It's a device that allows a shop or online company such as brenspeed to re calibrate your computer to release hp from the factory motor... most cars are tuned down from the factory ... w a "race" cai and tune most people see gains of 25-30 rwhp

Your next mod and best bang for the buck should be 4.10 gears, it's not a power adder but your car will feel like night and day.

Re: more power?

If that is the daily driver though the highway cruising rpms would be to high right? Something like 3000 rpm at 80 mph. Badas* if it is mostly for racing though.

Mines a DD with 4.10's. Work is 40 miles one way right now. It's about 2600 RPM's at 79 mph. Hwy mpg is about 22 or so.

I get 20 to 22 mpg when I don't hammer it all the time. 4.10 is the way to go for the 3V's.

For city driving, the car is putting out less effort to accelerate so you can gain MPG as I did.

As for the OP, gears, Headers with X pipe, tune. That covers the basics. Gears are a great addition that compliment any increase you've already got.

** you mention that most cars are tuned down, I would have to agree my 2009 GT is impossible to even spin the tires. I have all the power I need after accelleration but it just seems the throttle response is very slow out of the gate. ***

mine has a throttle lag that drives me mf-ing nuts...its about 3 seconds then it rolls in and revs up...I know for older modles had a device you could by to bypass that lag...RPMS have to be up and dump the clutch to pull out in traffic, if I try to pull out quickly it will just putt putt out the gate the accelerate...one thing about the car I hate.

I agree. Stock, for drivability, the throttle response is bad. By design.

Tune clears that right up.

If you can't peel the tires, it has a lot to do with good traction and no roll out power as most stock cars regardless of power are tuned for drivability so rolling out will almost never smoke tires.

Re: more power?

Yea, I turned off traction control, however I did fail to mention it is an automatic. Standard I think I can get fathers Diesel dually spin. As far as tires I do have good tires so that doesn't help.
