can't decide need imput

Ok guys Im getting ready for my next round of mods. I plan to pull the trigger
after I get back from vacation (5 days on my Harley at the Beach- Bike week OC MD.) The mods Im planning to do are Gears,CAI and a Tunner all at the same time. I already have Flowmaster Hushpower axle-back installed. I have made up my mind on the CAI Im going Steeda with an SCT tunner from AM . My problem is I can't seem to make up my mind on what gear ratio I want.

Im leaning towards 3.73s but 4.10s would be awesome but steeper then I most likley need. My car is a M5 with stock 3.31 gears its not my DD I have co truck for DD use but it is the only car I have so gas milage is some what of an issue at $4 plus a gal for 93 oct. I want to keep my hwy fuel milage above 20 mpg so my question is what kind of mpg do you guys with 4.10 gears get when you take your cars on a road trip. My car will see limited if any track time its mostly just my weekend toy

Re: can't decide need imput

If you do a majority of highway stick with 3.73, if your car is a city driver then go 4.10. Since you mentioned highway driving i would go 3.73

granted I will take a few road trips a year. But most of the hwy miles I will put on the car will be short trips.

I have 3.73 and mines a weekend car. Had them installed about 3 months ago, and sometimes i wish i had 4.10's. I have frpp cams, i took a round trip of about 80 miles and about 70-75 mph, i used almost 1/4 tank of gas. So without the cams and 4.10's, i think it couldnt be much worse.

Hmmm. Didn't I post about MPG's with 4.10's the day before yesterday? Yes I did. At any rate, with my mods I get around 22mpg highway with 4.10's. That's usually cruising around 80mph at about 2600 RPM's.

Thanks for the info I can live with 22 to 24 mpg with 4.10s that's better then I was thinking. Looks like Im going to go with 4.10s instead of 3.73s

The 4.10 CAN help city mileage under certain circumstances.

Plus, you'll notice a bigger difference from 3.31 to 4.10 gears.

Re: can't decide need imput

I figure if I do gears CAI and tune all at the same time it will all most like getting a different car.
After these mods I will start working on the none HP mods like Lowering springs, LCAs, Short Shifter and new Wheels and tires to run durring the summer mounths.

I did gears/tune/intake and that same time and it was an awesome jump since as you said, was so much at once.
