Next Mod!

Alright guys so I'm looking for my next hp/torque adding mod, right now I have a K&N cold air intake, diablo tuner, and dual 40 series flowmasters mufflers, any guidance or advice and what my next step should be?

What's you're budget? Have you thought about gears?

Actually I really have, I'd love to put 4.10s in it but the only thing is, it's my daily driver and I do a lot of highway driving, eventually once I get a gas saver car that will defiantly be on the list!

Hmm, and what kind of gains are you expecting from that? Does it really make a significant differance?

Why? You'll gain like 5 HP if that. Especially with the mods that you have. Do something that you'll actually notice like gears or headers

It's suppose to give u a way better throttle response because it will open up all the way and allow more air from ur intake

You won't really gain anything. Maybe a little bit better throttle response that's a bout it. The stock one is fine for bolt ons. When you go FI is when you need to upgrade the throttle body due to the added air.

Ya well the throttle response will be a little bit better but not a huge difference. For the money I don't think it's worth it. I would put money towards things that will actually be a good HP increase

I had 4.10' in my 02 auto gt and loved it didn't really care about top end because I never needed it. If you're worried about loosing 1-2mpg then get 3.73

I heard the best gears to go with for both performance and mpg are 3.91 gears

Gears. You'll enjoy them a lot more and it will wake your car up. The stock gearing sucks

Ya 3.91s are good but at that point you might as well just go 4.10. The performance will be better and honestly between 3.91 and 4.10 there is going to be pretty much no difference in mpg. Maybe very minimal. Unless you plan on a supercharger down the road I would go 4.10.

I would go with the long tube headers and x-pipe. Then probably the gears...I'm runnin' 4:10's and really like'em. Yeah they drop mpg if you're using your lead foot...lol, but it doesn't change really terrilbly if you're careful. My next big upgrade before I jump into the engine is gonna be a six (6) speed trans and one (1) piece driveshaft.

Gears are the most significant increase you can feel, besides superchargers. I have 4.10s and I get 25.8 mpg (got 23.5 before I added the CAI though) going 70. Every once in a while I wish I had gone with 4:30s (I got greedy with the extra power jumping from 3:55s to 4:10s), but I dont want to be at 3K rpms going 70.

Quick question, how much of a change does going from 3.55's to 3.73s make in acceleration? I thought about doing gears but the jump doesn't seem that high.

It's a good jump but not like going from 3.31s to 3.73s

Opinion on yellow fogs? I have all black lights right now. I kind of want to do something different.

To be honest, I'd say buy suspension. Control arms, springs, shocks, struts, and sway bars. You won't get more than 20hp from any single mod alone. Long tubes are great as long as you have a plan to do the Midpipe and then you have to fight with emissions bs. Do suspension then save up for a blower.

Gears are a must. Remember this is only a 4.6l. If you do alot of highway then 3.73. I have 4.10 and at 60mph I am doing 2000rpms, not bad but I also have a different 5th gear .62. 05-09 is .67 5th so it would be about 2150rpms.

comparing gearing to a stock 350Z

(Mustang GT 05-09 5spd axle ratio 3.31) (350z 03-09 6spd axle ratio 3.54)
1st 3.34 x 3.31 = 11.05 to 1 -------------- 1st 3.79 x 3.54 = 13.42 to 1
2nd 2.00 x 3.31 = 6.62 to 1 ----------------2nd 2.32 x 3.54 = 8.21 to 1

3.73s
1st 3.34 x 3.73 = 12.45 to 1
2nd 2.00 x 3.73 = 7.46 to 1

4.10s
1st 3.34 X 4.10 = 13.69 to 1
2nd 2.00 x 4.10 = 8.2 to 1

I did 3.73 in my auto 99 GT and went from 14.3 to 13.9.
