Let me guess, you put the pump handle in and mash the handle and the pump shuts off? Pumps for like 2 seconds and then gone?

I only have a problem at the generic gas stations and more often with the stations that find it necessary to pry off the locking lever and make you hold the nozzle while you fill up. If anyone can explain the rationale to remove the locks please feel free to enlighten me!

05-09 Mustangs are notorious for fuel filling issues, usually turning the nozzle 90 degrees works.

That's the most obnoxious thing when it's cold out! Ugh! Ford put a TSB out on it.

I believe it covers the 05-07 V6 and GT's it has something to do with the filler neck. It's an extremely common problem that Ford refused to do anything about. When it first happened to me, I thought it was pump. The dealership looked at me like I was from outer space.

I don't really think the problem all lies in the fillerneck/vent tube. It's the design of the fuel tank also. If you don't want to look weird holding the handle upside down at the pump try this. Instead of going full bore on the pump when you start start slow, quarter of the handle down then gradually move up to full. The tank is saddled to clear the drive shaft and exhaust pipes so if you start slow the fuel has enough time to make its way over the hump to the other side.

Just use Chevron - I never have the issue and the gas is just better with Techron in it.

I have the same problem but only when its under half tank our at some gas stations. If tank is above half never happens so I keep at least a half tank in my gt.

Got gas today, went to a marathon for my usual 93 and as soon as I start to pump, "click". It was about 5 a.m. What did I do? I went handle up on it! Worked like a charm! The only thing I noticed is that if the pump handle didn't have rubber on it, it'd scratch the h*ll out of my car.

Im a Mechanic i actually looked this problem up to see if Ford put any TSB's out it was actually kind of funny i guess on the 05-06 Mustang they caught on about the problem revised the gas tank on the 07-09 Mustang and still didn't fix the problem lol under correction for the problem it says try different filling stations, it says changing the tank is useless 😳 lol (****en Ford) still love my 07 GT lol

Galindo, awesome information! I really appreciate it. I guess we will keep goin handle up at the pump until the do something. It feels to me like the neck of the tank is designed at a really steep angle and has the pumps recognizing the car as full. Either that or it lets gas backup into the pump signaling full. Of course I have no idea if that's right, it just seems that way to me. Appreciate the effort brother.

So I can be trouble free for years and this problem can just start up?

Something to look forward to.

On most Fords, it is usually caused by a plugged Evap vent filter. It is located above the right rear axle mounted to the frame usually. I haven't checked where on our cars. It is a plastic box, usually black. Only a few inches. Remove that filter and then try to fill. If you can fill it then most likely that filter is bad.

It is usually caused by the owner, not the manufacturer. Kinks in the filler pipe or air venting and vapor recovery.

Caused by topping off the fuel AFTER the pump shuts off. It shuts off with a purpose. You know, when you get $49.44 cents but want that to show $50.00? That is how this problem is usually caused.
