Emissions

Just wondering how people get by emissions with their off road exhaust setups. Is there any way to get around it so to speak?

I would like to know as well, I think the tuner will do the trick but I'm not 100% sure

Yeah, I just want to know because I keep going back and forth between catted or uncatted mid pipes.

It's not really possible to pass an emissions test with an offroad pipe unless you know someone that will pass it for you

Ok. I just see a lot of guys on here with off road set ups that seem to be doing fine.

Yeah. I passed the whole emissions part. My emissions were fine and then they had the idea. Lets look under the car and the failed me when I didn't have cats on, even though I passed te actual emissions testing

Ok but did you have the upstream cats still on? Or did you have no cats on at all?

I passed before in my fox body with an O/R H. They didn't do a visual test and only put it on the dyno and did the sniffer test. You'll fail the visual test every time, but all I did was change my oil and drive around on the highway for about 30 minutes before I went to the e-check and I passed it no problem.

I had no cats at all. Passed the actual dyno test but then they failed me after the visual test.

Send a message via AIM to Borii
Depends on the state. Example, inNJ, emissions stations are state run, so almost impossible to pass them. In PA they're private, so you just find someone willing to sell you a sticker.

Here in CT they really only check for codes on the computer and hardly ever do a visual. All depends on the type of testing they do.

Does anyone have o/r pipes and get inspected in Texas. I've never noticed them check for it during an inspection before, but not sure.

I think only a few counties around Dallas area and Houston do emissions testing. I've never had a visual inspection in Texas.

Wish I knew this a few months ago. I woulda have gone with an o/r xpipe. Oh well, they aren't too expensive.

I'm in ct too. I went the other day, never saw them do a visual, but I failed anyway because of my 93 tune from bama. I hate emissions!

You have to figure out what is causing you to fail and then go back again and get retested

What did you fail for? The tune shouldn't have any issues unless the CT test picked up that certain sensors were turned off.

I live in PA. I've been around when they inspected mine and my Ranger. They do a safety inspection first such as checking lights, brakes, rotors, tire tread, shocks, exhaust leaks, also see if your cats ore on, horn, wipers, ball joints, tie rod ends, and wheel bearings, also cracks in windshield. Then the emissions part is a gas cap test for leaks. If gas cap fails they'll run it a second time. If it still fails you need a new gas cap.

I'll keep that in mind, when I put my headers on I plan to go up to a 93 octane tune.
