Question Disassembling Tail lights?

Hey all, I've searched the net quite a bit about this, but haven't been able to find anything, even in the maintenance manuals I have. What I'm attempting to do is take apart the tail light housings themselves, and cover the reflective surface inside with led strips. I already tried replacing the stock bulbs with led aftermarket ones, but they aren't very bright and are already going out, so now I'm thinking of taking a more extreme (and unique) approach. Can anyone help me here? Has anyone taken apart their housings before, or is it too much work to be worth it? I've read with other cars that you can bake the lights in the oven for a few minutes to loosen the glue, but each car can be very different. Thanks in advance!

Look up on the cobalt forums, they do that to there headlights all the time

It's basically just preheating the oven to 250 then shut it off and then placing the tail light housing in there on a cool cooking sheet and carefully check it often but after 5-10 mins the glue holding the lenses on should soften enough to pry it off

I figured that's all it was. And there's probably a few bolts that come out at that point too? Should I do the same process in reverse also? Will the glue be reusable?

What type of LEDs are you using and what color?

For a proper LED retrofit, use a dual intensity RED led bulb with an output of 264 lumens or greater that has a 360 degree emitting angle. You'll need 3 load resistors (one for each bulb) wired in. The conversion should be around $100 or more (I'll do a more detailed write up later).

As I said in my original post, I've already got dual intensity led replacement bulbs. I'm looking to replace those with a custom setup of led strips inside the housing. I already have load resistors, and I'll be ordering the strips once I know I can take apart the housings without damaging them

These will run you $180 for six bulbs (may need resistors too), but I think is the best LED conversion and overall LED taillight setup on our 05-09s currently on the market.

They're red LED bulbs that produce an astounding 320 lumen/bulb. Not only are they brighter but they'll be more red as well.
