Rattling

I have noticed while i am driving that there is a rattling coming from my exhaust. It isn't constant though, it comes and goes. I have gone back there and made sure everything is tight and it still rattles. Any ideas?

Make sure it's not hitting where the spare tire sits.

@JeremyBaker; I had the same issue with my exhaust after I installed it. I'm not saying this is the exact issue, but this is my guess...

Check the hangers that your actual exhaust is held up with. When your car heats up those hangers move 0.5 to 1 inch. When those hangers move they tend to rattle against the hanger mounts. (which are black mounts bolted to the underside of the car) What I did was take some 3/8th sized rubbing tubing and wrapped them around the hangers that hold up your exhaust pipes/tips (so when the heat expanded them, they would still hit against the hanger, but the rubber hose would be hitting it, therefore making no metal on metal rattle). I cut them down the side and then proceeded to zip tie them tight. I haven't had a rattle since.

I hope this helps....This is just based off of the rattle I had on my car.

No problem. I can just about promise that is the problem. I searched and searched for my rattle and really the hangers are the only thing that can possibly make them rattle.

Okay so i did the thing with the rubber hose and it stopped the rattle on my passenger side. Then about 15 minutes into my test drive, the driver's side started rattling! Any other ideas?

Jeremy.baker,

Are the rubber mounts for the hangers badly aged? Do they seem to sag or stretch too much? If so, maybe a set will do the trick. It sounds like you have way too much movement in your exhaust to me..

They do seem to be too bad but i don't know what they would look like new. How much would a new set be?

I wrapped all of my exhaust hangers in rubber coating. I would say 5 inch pieces of 3/8ths thick rubber tubing. A total of 4 hangers are wrapped. 2 for each side. Wrap them all!!!

Jeremy.baker,

We do have the SR Performance stainless steel exhaust hangers available. These are replacements for the very rear hanger(s), which sounds like the ones that are causing you problems.

Hopefully this does the trick!

Because only two hangers come with those, do i only need to replace one on each side, or should i order two sets and replace all four?

These are just the rear hangers, closest to the end of the car. I believe the next set of exhaust hangers are different shaped, but for some reason it's slimming my memory. I have 94-04 Mustangs stuck on my mind..
