Tranny Noise

2007 GT 5 speed. 102,000 quality miles. I noticed a growling tapping type sound, really hard to describe. It's on acceleration, but if I push in the clutch and rev it, the engine sounds perfect. The clutch doesn't slip, I can start in 3rd. So is it clutch springs? Throw out bearing? or something in the tranny?
The only mods are SCT tune, CAI, Hurst billet shifter, axle backs, LCA's, oil catcher can.
Any ideas?

I've had the same problem since 43k miles and I'm at 103k now. My mechanic said it was the cam phasers ticking.

With the car in neutral it doesn't make any noise. I can rev it to 5,000 and it's sound great. I've replaced one cam phaser and don't recall it making any noise before that.

Same were. If it's in neutral it won't make it. I've heard some s197s at the track with the same problem. I don't pay attention to it anymore. I'm sure you will be fine. It happens while slowly accelerating then fades away right?

It doesn't really go away. It's more of a growling than a tick. Hard acceleration is worse.

Could it be an exhaust leak? Mines goes away once the car is going 20+mph.

Don't think so , but I guess it's a possibility and an easy check.

Flowmaster 40's are the best mufflers.
CAI's are all the same with a tune.
SC is easier to install and safer.
3.73's vs. 4.10's not much difference.
Can you plastidip your neighbor's cat?

Now I've commented about the traditional topics. Can someone help with my tranny question?
