lsx swap

alright before this thread gets out of hand or I get flamed, this is NOT for me, I am just asking some questions. My buddy has a 07 GT and his motor just blew, he can get a LS1 and harness today for 800. He as seen the swap in fox bodys and in a few 2000 GT's and is intrigued by it. I have no idea what is needed or what transmission will be in the stock location, or parts needed. Anyone have any tips, help, parts, advice?

He can likely get a 3V for less money than that and regardless will be into it for WAY more than a good used 3V when he is done.

But in a nutshell with these swaps it is:

-Swap mounts or swap K
-Modified fuel system
-Wire or pay someone to wire in the LS1 or use a standalone
-Might as well go with a LS1 trans and get the 6 spd with the deep overdrive

There is more to it. Its not just "spend the $800 and drop it in and go".

I have seriously tried telling that, but he is all over this like white on rice. He knows it's not just 800 and drop it in, anyone should know that. My question is now will the ls1 trans fit into the stock shifter location?

I believe on the wiring he was going to do his own cluster panel with custom gauges.

LS1 and harness for 800? Tell him to DO IT. And while the engine is out, throw a cam in it.

Just so you know, there are kits made for LS swaps into Mustangs, so its not a huge PITA to swap.

In a nutshell its pretty much swap mounts, hook up all the plubming to run the cooling system, get the crossmember and DS angle set for the trans, install an autometer cluster and run a standalone ECU.

I still say it'll be cheaper to replace the engine in the 3V, sell it and buy a LS1 Camarobird. Much cheaper.

An LS swap can be done for 3-4k out the door. And potential for power is better.
