Engine rebuild

Well, after popping off a head gasket and melting a piston, I'm looking at a rebuild with a new forged bottom end. I was talking to an engine buolder in Brampton Ontario and was just quoted $6, 000 for a 5.0 stroker rotating assembly (Manley), replaining the heads, and machine work that has to be done, gaskets, arp head and main studs and engine assembly. What do you guys think? Any way to do this cheaper?

That's not a terrible price. Might get a few hundred cheaper somewhere else but if he's a reputable mechanic then roll with it.

Only way to do it way cheaper is to do the work yourself.

But with a shortblock, you still have to have head work done and the cams put back in and set up.
