engine whine question

I hope I'm posting in the right thread. I have a 4.6 gt, and everything I let the pony run it whines like there's asupercharger. I know it doesn't have one, it is stock as far as I know. I don't think it's normal. There's no warning lights, and my vehicle health report it's normal. Any help would be appreciated.

Probably power steering pump. Can you hear a faint whine at idle?

Whines can be from quite a few thing, usally the biggest culprit is the power steering pump.. A quick why to tell if it is accessory is to undo the belt an start it up quick.. If no whine then it's probably a accessory.. If you don't few comfortable doing it.. A quick trip to your local mechanic can probably narrow it down and even give you an estimate...

The whine only comes when I stomp on it and going straight. No it not there at idle, or when I turn the wheels all the way left or right

Haha I could tell by the picture.but yea the gears I just through out there since thats the only small whine i hear in my car.and easiest way to find out is go under the car and look at the axle cover.should be a sticker with the ratio.i was lucky i had the 3.73s saved me money

Sure it's not the throw out bearing? Does it stop whining when you engage the clutch?

Oh gotcha. My does the same thing as in whining like it has a supercharger.. Mine is a manual and I came to the conclusion it's the throw out bearing.

Could be coming from the alternator. They do tend to have a whine to them under heavier loads(ex. running heat or ac).

If that is the case, could it be harmful?

Nah, mine did it. I just had to replace a relay. But usually, you can turn off your ac/heat and the whine will stop. If it doesn't, and you're concerned, get it checked out.

I'm not too concerned, I had a 07 F150 with a 4.6 and it didn't make any noise, but it didn't have as much power as the stang lol

On another forum someone posted that they replaced the alternator which did not correct the issue, but as soon as he changed out the belt idler pulleys that did the trick.

I would not worry about it unless one of the senior guys here thinks otherwise.

I also get a whine when running the engine hard.

^What he said. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. You'll KNOW when you have a serious problem. Good luck man!
