Failed inspection

ok my GT I recently bought just failed N.J. state inspection
it had and off road x pipe and MIL eliminators on it
and both the converters and o2's came up as "not ready"
but the car had a GOOD PA insepvtion on it , and the previous owner said it passed
like it is
my question is is there a trick to get it to pass ? like setting the tuner back to stock or whatever ?
my local shop will pass it if the not ready lights would go off
I'd hate to dump money on converters right now , even though I will eventually put them on it
any info I'd appreciate it

If I were you, I would get that tuner updated and adjusted to all the mods done to the car.

We'll when I got my o/r x, I updated my tunes bc I added that on. Maybe the previous owner didn't update the tuner to compensate for no cats.
I might be wrong about the tune. I just know that the tune turns the CEL off bc it ignores the o2's, like I said. I could be wrong and the shops I go to for inspections are just to lazy or don't care.

With an off-road X pipe if they do any type of visual check you will fail because of no cats.

Stampde, it might have passed PA inspection for one simple reason... Some PA counties don't require an emissions test (unfortunately mine does ). Pennsylvania is a very strange state (I know, I live in Pittsburgh), and Pennsylvania is the #1 strictest state when it comes to driving regulations.

Except smog. When it comes to smog over here in Cali is the worst.

The SCT tuner won't turn off the 02s showing not ready. Make sure your 02s are on in your tune, most tuners turn them off, causing them to show not ready. Have you had the battery disconnected or changed the tune recently? The car has to complete a driving cycle for the 02s to show ready.

sorry that doesn't fly in N.J.
I have some one willing to overlook no cats , but it still has to pass the OBD inspection that goes straight to the state , when they plug your car in ...

Try doing the spark plug nonfouler trick you get 4 of the nonfoulers from any parts store and drill out the center of 2 of them with a half inch drill so the center of the O2 sensor fits threw and the screw drilled out ones into the non drilled out ones and instal them into you mid pipe and turn your rear O2s back on. This will only let the rear O2s to sample a small amount of exhaust and it should keep the check engine light from lighting up

So happy I live in Kansas right now. No emissions testing and extremely lax inspections on vehicles bought out-of-state.

Failed inspection

I had the same problem that the O2s we're not set for PA emission test. So I had to set the car back to stock tune to get everything to set after a full driver cycle. Once I passed and got the sticker I set it back to race tune. Till next year I get to do it all over again.

I removed the MILeliminators and put O2 foulers inline between the pipe and O2's
reset the ECU to emmisions tune and turned on the O2's
no check engine lights so far

Make sure your monitors are ready. You should drive around 80 miles before going back.

Monitors not ready won't cause a check engine light. Most OBD scanners will tell you if the monitors are ready. Like Arustik said you need to complete a driving cycle.
