can i just put in flowmaster 40 mufflers?

Looking to get a little bit ore exhaust note, always been a big fan of flowmasters...I do not want o go overboard though and I would like to keep it as OEM as possible.

Was looking t the axelbacks with flowmaster 40s, but if I just got the mufflers from an autopoarts store and put them on, would it still sound/look cool? or do I need to get the whole axelback from AM which would cost me twice the price?

The axle back is better because it comes with the pipe that comes down into the muffler and you get the tips too. If you do just a muffler you would need a shop to weld it in for you and you would end up paying just as much

What are you talking about here? I thought mufflers are always welded in or do they usually just bolt on?

I think getting just the mufflers would be good for me because I can get 2 40s for my car insanely cheap as I work for an auto parts store, and I know a reputable mechanic who can put them in for me for fairly cheap as well. All in all I will still save about 150$ comapred to the AM axelbacks (400$+) Also i do not like the black finish on the AM mufflers.

An axle back is bolted in place of the stock axle back using the same hangers and bolts. There is no need to ever weld anything exhaust wise on a mustang. You can't just go to autozone and buy a muffler and put it on.

OKay, maybe I will skip for now, honestly I think the stock exhaust sounds great I was just looking to make it a 'little' louder but I'm thinking maybe I will just skip it for now and get a CAI + tune. I love the sucking air the CAI's make with a tune, my friends got the one I'm looking at getting it and it almost sounds like forced induction

I too had flowmaster 40 series welded in, they don't sell the 40 series for our car in a bolt in application, and the American thunder series doesn't sound the same

Touche! Normally I'm not a pypes fan but the violators sound better than a lot of the more spendy ones I was looking at!

Agreed, I saw a couple vids on youtube where the guy had ONLY 40s (guessing he welded them in and kept stock tips) and it sounded PERFECT to me. I was pretty impressed with the violators though!

Usually pypes scare me because it seems like all the sixxers in my town get pypes set ups and it sounds AWFUl, - violaters seem pretty legit though, we shall see!

Gotta love good old AM though, "increase of up to 10HP" and how they spin the tires on the before and after video, because axelbacks really add a lot of power!

Don't have a lot to spend? Get on C.L. or your local forum to find a set. I myself will never buy a new set of axle backs ever again. You can find a barely used set for cheap and the quality is still the same for less money
