In the search of 65's sound

Hi all,

Over the weekend I managed to burst my exhaust due to rot and now looking for a new sound to replace and renew the rusted exhaust system.

I own a beautiful blue 2005 GT and looking to find the 65 sound for her. Will appreciate your suggestions Click image for larger version

Not exactly sure what you mean by 65 sound but I'm assuming you mean a classic mustang sound and in that case and depending how much exhaust work you wanna do I would do an h pipe and some flows or slp or borla but they can be expensive. And if your really looking to go all out longtube headers.

If you dont care about budget and want it exactly like an old school sound, go with pacesetter long tubes, offroad h pipe or catted and borla stingers. If you want to take it even a step further, add a set of frpp hot rod cams.

You would also want something like ford' hot rod cams to give it that 65 rumble.

I'm a big fan of the stock 4.6 exhaust, sounds classic to me...

Funny because when I tell people I got a flowmasters system and rev it they say "wow that's nice!!" But when I tell people it is stock and rev it they give a list of advice...this is another reason I hate people now that I'm as old as I am.

Everyone is a critic and needs to voice their concerns on other people's cars. Lol

Cams, long tube headers, good quality mufflers. The sound won't be the same as a classic Mustang, but it'll be closer than where you're at now. Look up videos on YouTube of different exhaust set ups. Good luck.

The problem is that the computer evens out the tone due to cam timing. You're going to need hotrod cams, locked out cam phazers, and a completely different kind of muffler. I doubt if you'll be able to find a set of ready-made axle-backs that will give you exactly what you want, so that means you're going to have to experiment, which is going to get real expensive real fast, unless you get lucky and find the right muffler the first or second time you try it.

What about starting off with a set of Bullitt axlebacks?

I find that youtube is very helpful. Helped me make my choice of going with longtube headers and off-road x-pipe. I dont have to worry adout emission laws where I live, because we don't have any.

I put a set of $400 Flowmaster Outlaws on with stock mid-pipes and it sounds deep and mean. It is very much personal preference. I watched countless videos over and over on pretty much every axle back made for the Mustang. I also read many reviews on AM for each of the exhaust components as well as reading many forums of exhausts. It takes time but I think it helps you make the overall decision.
