Ram air hood

I was looking at functioning ram air hoods online. I have a cai in my 07 gt. Would it be any benefit to get a ram air hood or would it be a waste with the cai?

I wouldn't get one strictly for any performance gains. Appearance wise is the real reason to get it. For it to even come close to having performance gains it would have to pipe the air to the filter and dump right on top of it and even then I wouldn't expect anything noticeable.

Here is a shot of my hood. It's a Cervini Ram Air type 4. You can also get the insert that channels the air straight to your air filter. Click image for larger version

Hey,

Galaxie64 hit the nail on the head! The primary reason to get a ram air hood is for the looks. You will get some performance gains, but it is honestly nothing to write home about.

When we tested the functionality of these hoods on our dyno, the results were somewhat disappointing. We did see gains in horsepower above 40 mph, however those gains were at about 5RWHP or less.

The looks are certainly sleek and aggressive but the power pickups are just not quite there.

I hope this information helps, and if you have any questions feel free to get back in touch. Best of luck!

-Dan

I have the stock hood scoop on mine (non-functional) and that thing gets scary at high speeds. 125+mph and it starts shaking something crazy I'm waiting for the day it comes flying off. Luckily most people don't make it a habit of doing 125+. My suggestion would be do one like the above poster and not one centered in middle of hood.

Hey do you know if they sell anything to cover up the holes on the hood? I just bought my type 4 ram air hood and I'm worried that I'll get bugs inside and leaves and other stuff I can't seem to find like a grille for them

Only question I have is if you tested it on a dyno, unless you were in a wind tunnel how could you know if you were getting the same airflow through the scoops? I'm by no means defending this product just curious how to accurately test it?
