exhaust help

Hello all!
new to the forum and to the mustang community. recently purchased a 08 gt.
i am totally confused about what the previous owner did. i had a flowmaster on my f150 and that setup was fairly simple.. not like the mustang at all.. does this thing have 4 mufflers?!! pictures attached

It appears to me to just be a custom exhaust setup (obviously Pypes M80 system with another set of mufflers behind the axle).

If I were you I'd get a whole new cat-back system (not a fan of Pypes).

Thanks for the reply. My first thought was to just replace the whole catback. The rear two mufflers appear to be stock (they have ford logo stamped into the metal) I was thinking about just putting on pypes axleback delete kit

I see you're new to the forums do I'll try to get you on the right path. This thread is in a section specifically for 05-09s. I would try browsing through the 96-04 GT section. There will be plenty of threads regarding exhaust for your year GT in there.

Probably installed the Pypes cat back and it was too loud so added another set of mufflers. Does the car have long tubes?

When you say "like its gonna die", do you mean a lopy sound like cars with performance camshafts?

The only way to get that sound and the performance that comes with them is to get the cams. A good exhaust will definitely make the car sound better though.

I like mid muffler systems. I have 18" universal Magnaflow straight thru mufflers that replaced the pypes mufflers that were there when I purchased the car and I am real happy with the way it sounds. There is no drone at all. I also have long tube headers and high flow cats.
