Header differences

I think the wife has decided to get some headers for me for my birthday. I'm going with some longtubes. I have read all sorts of comparisons on shorty and longtubes but the one thing I can't find is what the hell do they do to the sound of the car!! I would assume that longtubes would be deeper and louder? But I have no idea. Opinions slash experiences would be appreciated.

Performance wise the mac ceramic long tubes were right behind the kooks in the hp department on the dyno.(stock engine) The Macs are a great header for the price, pypes copied their design.

He's asking about sound guys...

OP, from searching on the Web for cars with the same exhaust setups, longtube Vs stock it seems the cars with longtubes are slightly deeper and throatier. Not much of a difference though on the Web. Perhaps the difference is bigger in person?

I have bbk ceramic longtubes. Deepened the sounds a little bit. Slightly louder, but nothing too crazy.

The difference in sound will really be controlled more by the crossover pipe you choose as well as whether or not you have cats on said crossover pipe. X-pipes will provide a raspier sound while and H-pipe will provide a deeper rumble. The volume of sound will be quite a bit louder if you go with an off-road pipe (i.e. no cats), however, depending on the emissions laws and things in your state, it may be a hefty fine if you're caught without cats as it is technically illegal and for "off road use only." Some states are more lenient about it than others however, and allow for more aggressive exhaust system modifications.

Shortys make better power until you pass the 300 mark then long tubes are a go. JBA in my book just my 2 cents

Again, he's only asking about the sound, not performance.

JBA in my book. X pipe is raspy, H pipe more of a solid tone old school in my opinion. Go 3 in pipe for a deeper tone

Thanks for the responses. I know the differences between longtube short tube x and h. I just wasnt sure what a pro chamber would do and I can't find any solid sound clips

Seems to be a common problem. From what I have read it is kind of a hybrid type mid pipe. I was also considering jba lt with the shorty off road h

I have ran JBA shorty with off road H & X preferred the H.
I came close to getting the mac pro chamber but went a different route.
Every one likes it just a little different

People say the prochamber flows like an x but sounds like an H. How true that is, I don't know.

If that were true that would be perfect. The prochamber is more than the mid pipe though.. not sure how I feel about that
