Pros and cons on 4.10 gears

Ok so I got FHR cams, BBK headers, BBK off-road pipe and steeda under drive pulley kit installed and dyno tuned on my 2010 GT (manual). I do feel a significant amount of power added to my car but it feels as if I've lost some umph in 1st and 2nd gear. Right now I'm running 3.73's. Will upgrading to 4.10's make a noticeable difference? What are the pros and cons? Will it effect my MPG substantially?

it really just makes you faster in some areas while slower in others, but if you are going for quarter mile times and quick acceleration then its a good upgrade.

Pros and cons on 4.10 gears

I'm personally going 4.30's when the time comes. But i dont plan on taking her to the track i just want her to be aggressive and fun to drive on the street scene "I don't street race, but I drive aggressively" . You should feel a jolt when you press the gas and it will instantly put a smile on your face. If you gonna worry bout gas mileage dont go for a deeper gear then. Its basically a great acceleration mod

I'm not really worried about it. I'm sure it will prolly be just a mile or two difference. Really what I'm wondering is if I will really feel s significant change going from 3.73 to 4.10. But there is a bit concern on the gas because I do use the highway a lot to go to work. But that's not a deal breaker.

From my impressions i heard nothing but great things about them since a majority of us want our rides to be quicker and faster, 4.10's are headed in that direction easily

I've had 4.10s for a year now. I drive predominantly in town and my mileage hovers right around 19mpg. I don't stand on it too much but when I want to, it's there with both barrels. I've taken it to the strip once and let a friend who is a regular racer run it down the track. In three runs it averaged 12.15. It's an auto with a tune and catbacks. I love them.

I'm also considering 4.10's but I have an AT so maybe 3.73 is more suitable for me, but if I had a mt would definitely go with 4.10

I was thinking of doing make 3.55 or higher. But it doesnt sound like itd be all that bad if I with with 4.10s

Ask any racer. Any real racer. It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning.

In my opinion, you should go with 4.10's because you have an auto. I've driven automatics with 3.73, 3.90 and 4.10 and the 4.10 was the most impressive. You won't regret it.

4.10s increase start time off the line and quarter mile, but reduce performance at longer distance high speeds

So what about performance with longer distance high speeds with the 3.73 ?
Affected at all? Because if not, then it'll only be beneficial unlike the 4.10 that apparently are beneficial but also negative

I saw a chart, I believe in AM that shows the different rpms you'll have at different speeds with different gear ratios.

There are charts you can view, that will show the RPM difference in gears, as stated above. I noticed a pretty big difference on long highway trips (MPG wise) but it was the best mod I ever did.

What you are talking about is this. One of the most useful posts on this whole forum, IMO: The truth about gears..

So 4.10 won't be good for roll racing?

No it won't be very good for roll racing. 4.10s are meant for stationary launches

I've heard a lot from other mustang guys that 4:10 gears are more for automatic mustangs....for manuals I think it's more towards 3.73 gears

Nope 4.10 are not just for auto guys in 5 speeds are just to lazy to shift 1st to 2nd because it comes so quick. Don't waste time and money on 3.73 jump to 4.10s you won't regret it. And guys that do 3.55s to 3.73 don't feel that much of a deference.

This is right on the money. My 08 came with the 3.55 option and when I did 3.73 gears I didn't notice much.

4.10's were defiantly the way to go for my manual.

My 11 GT has 4.10's. Roll racing is tricky, but I get it done. It works great when combined with a Boss intake. Get a good set of rear tires and get to it.

I went with 3.73 from 3.31,s and it put the power to the ground with not as much wheel spin that 4.10,s would have made. I have ran as mush as 4.56 gears and that was for point A to point B. Everyone has their opinion and it's like belly buttons everybody got one. 3.73 is a good all-around gear and if smoking your tires is your thing the 4.10 will be your answer.
