Best use of $4k

MMR sells a 4.6 stroked to a 5.0 for 4k. Ford racing just came out with a new 4.6 alluminator block stroked to 5.0. 4799 on late model restoration.

If you wanted just the internal components livernois sells a rotating assembly for 2399. Unless you can take your engine out, tear down everything balance a crankshaft internally, and bore your cylinders, you might as well just buy a pre assembled block, as the cost will be the same or close enough after you pay someone to do all that. You don't want just anyone doing that job either.

Install of the new block and pulling the old will cost you at least a grand by the time they transfer your heads from block to block.

What are your power goals? What do you want to do with car.. Just want it faster, lower ET?

It gonna be hard to go FI for 4k without a used kit and some DIY install, unless of course you decided on spraying it.

4k can get you a real nice N20 setup. Nice 150 shot, maybe some long tube headers and a dyno tune. Should have you close to 450 RWHP.

Building a 3v's top end isn't like building a ls1. The big gains just aren't there for the money.

I'm really sorry to hear things didn't work out for you with Bama tunes. Not sure your area but if your looking for a dyno tune and your not to far from Smyrna Delaware, look no further than Performance Evoluation. The owner Matt is a mad scientist when it comes to dyno tuning and he does that incredible. If I were to ever get a dyno tune, Matt from Performance Evoluation would be my go to.

Another top notch dyno tuning company in my area thats my understanding is called Evolution Performance not to be confused with Performance Evolution. Lol

Yeah, they apparently do some crazy awesome tuning at evolution performance but I believe you are correct and they are on the east coast.

With the mods you have dood I'd imagine a dyno tune would really get the most out of your mods... Bama is conservative on their tunes as is too.

Low mileage pullouts are $3k, rebuild candidates with good heads are $1k. One can also look at the F150 5.0 as it is very close to the Mustang motor and can be had cheaper. Also more of them out there. The biggest cost of the Coyote swap is not the Coyote, its the supporting cast to get it in. It might not be so bad with the 05-10 years but another cost nobody seems to factor in is a transmission that will shift at 7500 reliably whether it be manual or an auto.

A new 5.0 will engine will end up costing more than rebuilding his or buying a block. It definetly doesn't "drop" in there

Its a direct drop in with the swap stuff and you'll need to spend at least $10k to do a correct 3V build with a power adder. Either way its likely cheaper to sell the 05-09 and buy a 2011+.

What you and I consider a direct swap are quite different I think. You need a transmission as well, new driveshaft etc etc etc

Just about everyone here assumes performance equals Coyote, the OP may be satisfied with more power and doesnt need to beat a Coyote to be happy with it. I'd stick with the original plan. My .02

No you don't the modular transmissions bolt right up and drop right onto the stock K with stock mounts etc...

I thought the idea of upgrading to the coyote was to be more equivalent to the new models (6 speed) that's why I said you would need a new tranny. Either way it's not a feasible "drop in" or everyone would do it. I think most already know that though like someone said.

Would it be cheaper to just buy a new 5.0? That depends. How much he could get from his old car would be a big factor. If he could get say 15k, it would then depend on how much he can buy a used 5.0 for, if he can get one for 22k or so there is big enough gap that for 7k he could easily run with a new 5.0. From modding his current car.Unless it was modified lots. Really just lots of factors. He hasn't really stated what his ultimate goal is.

More on topic though I think a good nitrous set up with headers would be best bang for his buck for 4k

No, upgrading to the Coyote is to upgrade the motor, not the trans. If you've got a good trans that shifts at 7k just fine then why would you waste money on the Getrag?

If I were spending that money and starting from scratch it would be on cai, cam, exhaust, dyno tune and suspension.

Lol I wouldn't waste my money on any of it. I'm supercharged currently and if I do anything else it will be a forged block.

I chased a coyote down last year, it grabbed my dog and was pulling it into the woods. It saw me coming on him and let go of my dog, cost me $3k in vet fees. I don't like coyotes and now hunt them for their pelts.

If you are happy with your car a DOB kit is a great deal for the money, that or look into a used supercharger kit. I have a full Vortech intercooled setup going up for sale soon ,for less then $4000 if your interested.
