Two things I use to check my speedo. One is find one of those "check your speed" things the cops put out. Very common in my area.

Second is a gps or even a gps app on your phone like google maps. When using this method make sure you set the cruise control and maintain a constant speed so it can take a accurate reading.

Come to California. You can be speeding on the highway and cops will pass you. If you don't go 80 on the highway you are getting passed left and right. And that is technically 10-15 over

If you are running larger tires you might need to either request a new tune to compensate for the wheel size or you can add the change while uploading a tune to your car.

Having the wrong gear ratio in your tune can also throw off your speedo

Yeah that's likely your issue. Now is a good time to pick up a tuner and some bama tunes If you haven't already. If you already have a tuner you can just plug in the correct tire size yourself and you're good to go.

You do want to fix it though because you are artificially putting more miles on your car than you should be so its depreciating faster.

You are running SN95 diameter tires on your S197... probably looks funky and yes, will throw off your speedo. Correct diameter is 27" vs the 25.7" you are running now. Honestly I'd get the right tires instead of tuning for a bad tire size for your car especially if the ones on there are worn anyway.

1 - You have 18" wheels so no

2 - 245/45/17 is a SN95 size

27" diameter is stock for a 05-up car. SN95s had 25.7 or 26.1"

Get on one of the various tire sites and get a size that is at or close to stock diameter. You CAN run a 245/50/17 but it'll be 26.3"...

For a 17" tire you want 235/55/17s on a S197 provided you don't have wider than a 8" rim. Stock diameter for 05-up is 27" like I said. Tirerack will tell you exactly all the specs of any tire you are looking at.

Wider does not=better but not sure what the stock bullitts were width wise. I'm assuming 17x7.5 and in this case I would just get the 235/55/17s. I would not do wider than a 255/50/17 which is 27.1" and Tirerack has Kuhmo Ecstas in this size and that's the only brand. $140 per tire. The 235/55/17s come in brands that are half that price lol.

Again, that is assuming it is a 17x7.5" wheel.

This solved a problem the other day, let's try it again. Use this calculator to see what you need. If you are running 17" wheels on a V6, stock tire size is 225/60-17, at least it was on mine. Go from there.

OK, I used the calculator that I recommended and determined that you are reading fast because your tires are too short. In other words your tires are spinning faster and causing you to get a fast reading which makes it seem like everyone is really running fast but they aren't. Going back to the 235-55-17s should solve your problem. Any rear tire that is 27 inches tall will give you the same results...use the calculator!

Seriously? No... you went way too big in the back and way too short in the front... You are 27.6" out back and 26.3" up front. Your ABS light will likely come on with more than a 1" difference in diameters as well.

I suppose you can lead a horse to water...
