Best radar/laser detector

What is the best radar/laser detector? I'm not trying to spend a fortune, but I do want something dependable

Escort Redline for pure sensitivity, no bells or whistles though. Next would be the Passport 9500ix, the GPS marking helps eliminate falses, but not as sensitive as the Redline. Beltronics also makes some similar units (same parent company as Escort). The best, cheapest detector would probably be a Passport 8500 x50.

Many swear by the Valentine V1 as well and it has directional arrows to tell you where the radar is coming from.

Yea I've never had a radar detector, but I've always heard the Valentine one is the one to get because of the arrow. That is all hear say though.

I've run a Passport 9500ix for a few years and haven't had one single ticket since. But I had 2 other buddies buy at the same time but one has got three tickets since. Trick is not to speed when there isn't another car in your sight line. I always throttle back if I'm on th highway and I can't see another car. Saved me more than a few times. If you see a car and no signal your good to rock on it. Knock on wood....

6 months of pure hell not driving my car (living in the snowy North) .... I weep a bit everyday!!!!!!

The Passport 8500 x50 has been a great one for me tons of range at a pretty good price.

Funny to see this thread pop up as I was looking at these on the inter-web today wondering the same thing. Never owned one before but since I got my stang well, Im kind of thinking I should get one. It's getting harder to stay at the recommended speed limit. Not saying I'm out there driving like an ***, but I never went 5 miles over the speed limit in my Malibu. 99% of the time I drive like an old man. Hope I don't offend anyone with that last statement, just saying they usually drive slower and safer.

It's definitely a good investment it's saved me multiple times when I was cruising just a little too fast. If it saves you once or twice it's already paid for itself!

For me it's the photo radar and red light cameras. With GPS in the 9500ix it tells you where logged units are set up. For instance, I can drive across the city and no word of a lie pickup at minimum 15-20 cameras. In the town where I live every major intersection has a red light or speed cam. I always like to know if big brother is out to get me. I would upgrade to the passport max if I was in the market. More advanced with more features and better sensitivity.

Escort redline is the best I have used. Picked up a state trooper radar over a mile on the interstate before I saw him. And it's kinda curvy here.

Old thread, but thought I'd dig it up to see what people are running these days. My 20 year old Bel is a little outdated!

Anyone running the Escort Passport Max 360?

I use the Escort Passport (their newest, cheapest model) and have nothing but great things to say about it.

Great sensitivity, good range detection, and useful add one such as the red light camera and speed trap alerts.

I bought the new Passport 360 Max a few months ago and couldn't be happier. Directional arrows and good range plus all the sensitivity features, gps based, and Escort live makes this a great unit for me. Escort live app gives you a second set of eyes way ahead of where your driving so you have a better idea of what's coming. Detector came with a year long subscription to the app plus 3 months of their updatable defender data base. Unit was expensive in Canada but in my eyes totally worth it. Although it falsed for a bit till it learned driving routes. Range detection is good maybe a touch less than my old 9500 ix but the indicator arrows are sweet. Tracks multiple signals at one time and is very easy to use.... I definitely recommend!

Is Escort Live similar to how Waze works? Waze is pretty awesome for daylight driving, but cops that can't be seen at night likely won't get tagged.

Yes, except whenever my detector detects, it automatically uploads it so anyone driving by with the Live app can also see it.

Then you can also set up how far away you want it to alert you, and how long you want the alerts to be displayed for you.

In addition to the Escort detectors, the Valentine One is still a good detector, it just doesn't have the "bells and whistles" of the Escorts. I run a V1 in my Mustang.

I have an old Valentine that had worked well. I honestly haven't used it in a little while, but I like that the company offers a discount on new versions if you trade in your old one.

I've heard good things about the V1, but it has the style of something manufactured in a Soviet bloc country in 1985.

That, and others have caught up to them a little. Leaning towards that Max 360...

Best radar/laser detector

The V1 is excellent, especially if you live in VA.

Anyone have the Max 360? Been looking to upgrade.

So far I love my 360. Lots of features and the arrows are great. Needed them but I understand valentine had a patent on the arrows which ran out. All my Escorts have been bullet proof. Just one ticket in the last 5 or 6 years and I can't blame the detector for my stupidity... Been playing with 360 settings and you can customize almost everything.... So far 8/10. Losses 2 points for being a grand in Alberta....

Escort does that too. I think they have an $80 trade in allowance for your old detector.

Here's how the deal works... I read on the RadarBusters site that they may require a receipt for the trade-in. Escort also has an instant $30 off, so combined it's possible to get $70 off their retail. Without the trade in, you can go to RadarBusters and save about the same amount for signing up on their site.

That Max 360 ain't cheap!

Trade In Program Details:

Trade in any current ESCORT RADAR detector (availbale for sale on the website) and we'll give you $80 on your trade when you purchase any new ESCORT Radar Detector for $299 or greater, or, $120 when you purchase any new ESCORT Radar Detector for $599 or greater. (V1 receives $120 when purchasing a Max 360 or Max 2 radar detector).

Trade in any older (non-current) Escort radar detector or any competitor radar detector,
and we'll give you $40 on your trade when you purchase any new ESCORT Radar Detector.

Applies to factory direct orders only.
One trade in per unit purchased.
Not available with other promotions or discounts.
Not available for previous orders.

Please call us at 800-964-3138 if you have any questions.

Important Notice:
Once we have received your old detector, it cannot be returned
