2010 GT, Speedometer Not Right, Warranty Fix?

My 2010 Mustang GT's speedomoeter is acting up in the sense it does not reflect the correct speed. It's about 12 MPH fast. I've read through some threads and this seems more of an issue for 2005's. Does anyone know if I'm too far out of warranty period for Ford to cover this?

Thanks

Did you get different wheels, tires or both?

I'm at 63,700 miles and I did upgrade wheels/tires. I went from 18's to 19's. Tires were 245/45/18 however now on 245/45/19.

That shouldn't be enough for a 12mph difference. Did you do a differential gear swap? Also, if you're car is tuned, they may have put the wrong gear ratio in the tune file.

According to this website...
Tire Size Calculator

To have an equal size tire in a 19 inch you should be running a
245/40R19... they would be the same.

245/45R18= 756.3 revolutions/mile
245/40R19 = 755.3 revolutions/mile
245/45/R19=729 revolutions/mile

That equates to a 3.6% difference in revolutions between originals and the tires you have now... also, you don't mention at what speed the speedometer is off 12 mph...
However... less revolutions per mile should be making the speedo read slower... something strange going on here..
no other changes to the vehicle around the time you noticed the speedo error?

I would agree about the tire size not causing the 12 MPH variance and I haven't swapped out differential/gears - all powertrain is stock. My car is tuned by BAMA via American Muscle and I just called them and spoke to a guy named Justin. He spent some time going through the tune files and confirmed the rear end is set up correctly for 3.31:1 (stock), but adjusted the revs per mile from 753 to 729. He said that may help the problem. Once I get that in, I'll load it and see what happens and post a reply.

Thanks

It seems that that should solve the problem... correcting the speedo to the tire size... Good luck!

When correcting tire size, it's best to measure from the ground to the center of the wheel for a radius and then calculate the circumference and revs/mile. This takes into consideration the flat area where the tire meets the road.

Well, I loaded the Bama tune and I'm still 12 mph fast. There must be something deeper going on here. Does anybody know based on my year and miles on the car if I'm covered under warranty?

The warranty is 3yrs/36,000 miles. Unless you purchased an extended warranty. Best thing to do is call a Ford dealership. They can answer those questions.
