I really don't buy used cars anyway

I'm no expert on what sells, All I know is what I see sitting for what seems to be a very long time on a used car lot.
I like Corvettes but I sure would never buy another one.

I just joined this forum and was just browsing the different topics and questions. I don't knock anyone who prefers GM over Ford. But as for me I'm Ford for life. Especially Mustang. I know I don't only speak for myself when I say anyone who watches movies or TV a lot will tell you (now correct me if I'm wrong ) that the Mustang has been featured in more movies than any other American muscle car. So if you are still wondering what car to buy, buy the most popular car. Because at the end of the day, the Mustang can always be modified to outrun a Corvette any day.

Should I buy an s197?

I agree with Ronnie about the classics but the years are way off, the C1s have really gone up in value since they are becoming rare. The last classic to really go up in value would be a 71. But 90s ZR-1 have done decent about holding their value, one in really good shape is around 30 grand. And the Callaway, and Lingenfelter corvettes have held their value well. But in the C6 models I think the Z06 has done the best. The ZR-1 has lost almost half its value from new in earlier models. Z06 has done much better keeping its value. Although the ZR-1 is still the more expensive of the two, it has lost more value from its original price. I'd love to have a C6 Z06, a cammed Z06 has the best V8 sound ever, at least that's my opinion. But if I could get my hands on a Callaway Z06 652 I'd be in heaven...
Ronnie, I'm not trying to call you out, just letting you know...

On top of that a Mustang GT or a Corvette is NOT a car you "Trade in". Only a fool would or someone with No financial sense or worrys aka someone rich, would do that. You always sell them privately online. Especially if you modded the car. Then you will get some of what you sunk into it back. I always have. I am on my 4th GT Minus the v6 I bought last year. YEAH... Never doing that one again lol

Around me people trade Mustangs, Vettes, camaro's , and whatever else with the same frequency as any other vehicle. In fact my Boss was a trade in. A Corvette is not for everybody they are small inside and you sit very low in the car. Not everyone likes that. May not necessarily be a bad thing but can't put the kids in the back of a Vette....lol....comparing a Vette to a Mustang is unfair to both vehicles it apples to oranges.

There really isn't a best option just depends on what you want. If you go strictly by performance then I would go with the C5 as its in a class above the Mustang, GTO, Camaro, etc. The LS1 engines are amazing and respond amazing to mods.

I was actually considering a C5 before I got my mustang but a few things that made me decide on the mustang were the lack of space in the covette and it does not have a spare tire (although some mustangs don't either). I travel a lot for work and drive 3-5 miles so feel a lot better having a spare tire with me. But once I have room for a second car I'll be getting one and keeping my mustang as a DD.

Since you have the SN95 I think you'd love the S197. If your finds allow, I'd bank on an 10-14 GT with the 11-14 being my top choice. The 05-09's are nice, but the interior is just a bit nice on the 10+.

I also think you'd like the performance out the 5.0.

Are the 2010's deeply discounted since they don't have the 5.0?

I would have been pissed to get a 2010, then find out the next year came with an amazing engine.

Yes they are in fact I know the book value on an 08 GT is currently $9,600.00 and the 10's go for a little more because they appear to possibly contain a Coyote and a little newer I think they go for like 14k-15k

I would pick the 2011+ 5.0 any day over both cars it's a easy choice for me because I've always been a mustang fan. Hell a true mustang guy would take a mustang II.

I imagine it wouldn't weigh that much, so could be a really fun track car, with some modest upgrades.

Honestly, I like them, the look. Call me crazy that I'd want a pinto mustang, but they're cool to me. But the drivetrain, suspension, brakes would be upgraded...
I'm the only one I know who likes a Mustang II, but hates fox bodies...
No disrespect to fox owners...

Exactly what I was going to use it for...
Built 347 stroker
Ford top loader 4 speed
Adjusted 9in rear
Good suspension
Brembo brakes (5 lug set up)
Make a good road course car...

That would be freaking sweet, since you never see them. And it would be the ultimate sleeper as they were so weak stock.

Actually the Pinto's and Mavericks make fun drag cars and I don't like the early fox bodies either. I was into GM stuff then. I did warm up to the later fox bodies right before the end of them and I like the New Edge and love the S197. I like the King Cobra in that it reminds me when I was a kid and is so tacky it's cool.

I go to drag races but have no desire to drag (I'm invited). My interest is in circuits, like Road Atlanta...

Circuits test my driving skills more than drag racing...

I would love to road race but I can just picture my Mustang spinning into the wall and trying to explain that to the insurance company!

The key to that is know your limits and more importantly your car's limits. And I've been told some insurances offer road course coverage, it's probably a ***** ton of money though. I live about an hour from the corvette course in bowling green. 6 months ago a 08 GT3 RS, slammed in a wall, but dude says he had road course coverage, I was sent a picture of the car, good as new...
But I'd be hesitant to take a Porsche on a track, even after being on a course several times. Those cars are insane...
I'm scared to death diving pops Porsche on the street let alone a road course...

Something else I forgot to mention is discipline. Don't push the car beyond its limits. When I raced I'd see a lot of Porsches spinning out or running off the course. They pushed them and the thing with Porsches is they aren't forgiving if the driver makes an error, at least the older ones. Newer ones not so much...

I dabbled in racing when I was younger just lacked the resources to get serious with it. I want to take my Boss to a road course bad I'm going to look into it. I'm not too far from Summit Point or VIR

A guy was supposed to setup a race course in a parking lot last year so I built it thinking it would be fun but he never came through. But it's fun to take outside with the kids and run on the street!

Mine may look like an old Mustang fastback but it's got the underpinnings of a Porsche! She's AWD and 4 wheel independent suspension! lol
