Should I buy an s197?

I know this is a mustang forum. I've been a member here for a little bit. I currently own a 96 gt with 4.10s and a few bolt ons. My question is, for those who drive these cars, would you still pick your s197 over a gto or c5?

In my opinion...

Gto=ugly, yet the 6.0 can be beastly plus has IRS.
S197=rides nice, looks ok, much improved from sn95. I'm pretty ford faithful
C5=it's a vette. Ls engine. Looks great. Pretty sure it comes with a 4l60 in auto form which is garbage. Doesn't look fun to work on.

Just looking for opinions. Basically if you were buying right now, what would it be...

I love my S197 and would buy it again with out a second thought. To be fair, though, if you're looking for an accurate poll this wouldn't exactly be the right forum. This being a mustang site, the results will favor the mustang of course.

S197 or GTO...
Personally I'd get the GTO for performance...
The C5, are you including a Z06?
If you go for a S197 try getting a Roush, saleen, or shelby. The regular GT will need a lot done to it to run with the other cars you are considering...

Could you imagine what the replies would be if I joined an lsx forum and asked this question? Lol

There are some serious stang haters out there.

The z06s are high, as are the other mustangs you mentioned. I'm pretty sold on just getting a loaded low mileage gt, I just keep having second thoughts, mainly about the c5.i did test drive an 07 gt a few days ago and it's a big improvement over my sn95.

The corvette is the better buy, compared to the mustang. It has a stouter engine, lighter, better weight distribution, and better mileage, and it's faster. If you get one go for the fastback style not the frc, they're hideous...
And C5 Z06 are going for low 20s with low miles...

Depends on what you like. I agree, the C5 would be a fun ride, but I need a back seat. So I would have to vote S197.

If you can swing it then definitely a C5 Z man....not really comparable with a 3V in my opinion.

My buddies all have LS1/2 motors here at my dorm and I've taken a liking to them. Charge motion plates can only get you so far in the low end torque department.

I really liked the 3v when it was still in my car but it's really no substitute for the torque beast that is the LS series motor, especially when a simple cam swap can yield an upwards of 60 horses. The 3v is more of a cruiser, not a bruiser.

My vote is for the corvette, if it's practical enough for you.

I'll make this very simple for you....

S197=pure sex

Who doesn't love sex?

Decision made=S197

You're welcome.

I dont really care for the C5. C6 or C7 I would say do that maybe. The GTO is a beast... of a Cavalier. WTF were they thinking. S197 though is a range I think the C5 looks wise and performance is probable better than an 05-09. 10 S197 looks better and if you can swing 11-14 S197 well then it is a no brainer

I'd be buying an 11-14 gt if they were in my my price range.

The termis are so expensive. Ive seen one that's affordable for me and the miles were higher than what I'm looking for. I'm pretty sold on the s197 because they're cheaper with lower miles, but it would be hard to pass on a c5 that's priced right.

And no I don't need a back seat, the car won't be a dd. I won't be buying anything for a couple months so I have time to think.

Try looking at a GT/CS or a Bullitt, most of the time they have lower miles than an average GT, being they are special editions...

Corvettes may be the "superior" car but Mustangs are more fun and seem to get more attention. People love Mustangs it used to aggravate my boss at work that nobody really ever said anything to him about his 14 vette but my 08 mustang people were always telling me how much they liked it! Once I got my 12 Boss that was it. He sold his Vette and bought a Ruby Red GT 500. To me a nicely done s197 can't be beat.

C5 if you want to go fast. GTO if you want a nice/fast DD that has the potential to runs 11's rather easily.

Only a 2011+ 5.0 would be any sort of competition for either of the GM cars. I wouldn't waste money on any car that came with an NA 4.6.

Also, the 4L60/80 are pretty decent transmissions. With a little bit of work they can hold more power than you'll ever be able to put down on the street.

Know what the difference is between a Corvette and a Jackass?
A Jackass has the prick on the outside.`
You don't want a corvette man, Mustang people are way cooler.
A Corvette says "I'm better than you" a Mustang says, "I'm a car guy, lets have some fun."

Kind of impossible to answer your question.

All I can say is that there are genuine MUSTANG PEOPLE

And there are OTHER car people.

People love their Mustangs because they are a very special car to their owners. If you look at the American Muscle Mustang event in Pensylvanie in 2014 and see well over 2,600 cars of all the same kind (MUSTANGS) you may understand what they mean to a lot of people.
This is one single brand.
Of course there are larger shows but they have many different brands attending those shows.
Owning a Mustang and enjoying other Mustang people is just a great thing in Mustang owners lives.
I have had Corvettes and been to Corvette functions and believe me, I just did not enjoy the Corvette owners much.
I'll stick with my Mustang "REAL" people and don't even think of any othe brand car.
Ronnie

Wow, sounds like you guys are meeting some real jerks. That's drag.
All the Mustang people I know (with the exception of one major jackass) are very cool....the only ones with an attitude seem to be some of the 6 popper guys.
At least that's been my experience.

I personally love the 2011+ but I think the main thing you need whichever car you choose, is that is was cared for and treated extremely well. Any of the ones you mentioned would be a joy to own and drive if you find one that was really kept nice and not ruined by boy mods.

C5 only if it's Zo6 get it
GTO 6.0 way more power if that's what your looking for
If you don't mind dropping more money on the stang to keep up with a 6.0 GTO then get the stang

I love mustangs that's why I picked it over a 6.0 GTO

The only american made sports car that holds its resale value better than a Mustang GT/Cobra is a vette. If you can swing it? Get the vette hands down. If you like mods? Get the newer GT. We have Americanmuscle.com

I really don;t think this is really true. I know just in my very small town of Port Oranges Florida there are a bunch of Corvettes sitting on used car lots. They have a pretty hard time selling them. The one dealer sells them on line better then selling them off his lot. A used $54,000 Corvette is usually half that as soon as you take it off the lot. A year later you can knock another $13,500 or so off.

Now, get down to the 1963 to 1967 and a different story. They just keep going up & up. The specialty Vetts hold value pretty good after the initial deprecation. Like the Z06 etc.models. But the loss from the new cost is still pretty high.

My problem seems to be "I just don't care about "DEPRECATION" because I buy what I like and usually keep it for 4 or more years anyway. I had My 1998 Corvette from new to 2008.

Ronnie I am sorry but this is highly untrue. My buddy has owned 4 of them. He is on his 5th one now. No car sells right off the lot in this day and age Ronnie. The internet has changed car sales over the past 5yrs. Every used car sells better online now days than off the lot. Why? People go to autotrader.com or cargurus.com before ever leaving home.

On top of that a Mustang GT or a Corvette is NOT a car you "Trade in". Only a fool would or someone with No financial sense or worrys aka someone rich, would do that. You always sell them privately online. Especially if you modded the car. Then you will get some of what you sunk into it back. I always have. I am on my 4th GT Minus the v6 I bought last year. YEAH... Never doing that one again lol
