How to verify visually a California Special?

Hey everyone. I live in Japan and encounter many fake modifications in an attempt to raise price of a Mustang. I'm looking at a 2007 GT that claims to be a California Special. Aside from a decal on the side of the car are there any dead give aways to the difference? Did 2007 even have a GT/CS?

Yes. I own a 2007 gt/cs vert. Some giveaways will be a 2 tone interior, hood scoop, side scoops, rear faux gas cap that says California special, and the cs rocker stripes. You can also run the vin from ford and it will show you that it has the California special package installed.

Best way would be to run the VIN. If you manage to get the VIN and post it here, I can pull up the window sticker for you if you're unfamiliar with the process.

Tough call on that pic. Something doesn't look right with the side stripe. Maybe it's the piece in front of the wheel well. Cs package is all cosmetic so there is not real performance differences between a gt and gtcs. I would run the vin.

Here's the car, thanks to my extensive detective skills.

The GT/CS

I'm confused by the SHELBY door panel thingies.. and those side view mirrors?

Don't know if this helps.

My best guess if you're unable to run the vin would be a gt premium with cs, Shelby, and other mods.

The Shelby door panel is likely one of the fake things Japanese do. The turn signal mirrors is a requirement in Japan and I understand that modification. It's that or placing turn signals on the body forward of the doors on each side.

I would say run the VIN it does appear to have the things a California Special is supposed to. Also I don't believe that it is that more valuable than a GT premium to warrant the work in "cloning" one either!

Thanks everyone. Japan is notorious for falsely labeling a car. There is a GT500E over here. It's a base model V-6 with the exterior looks of a Shelby.

Rear Bumper cover is different too. It's the same as a GT500 but painted differently.
GT500 has the whole lower portion painted black while a CS has just the insert around the tailpipes painted black.

Wow, now there's a piece of CS trivia....not many people would know that if they didn't have one or know somebody with one.
That's also a little harder to fake so good point!

OP,

I feel it is a GT/CS. There were two different interior combos Black/Dove (grey) and Black/Parchment which this car has. A GT/CS had to start with a GT Premium which this car is (look at the gauges which is a four gauge cluster). Also the information everyone has been adding about the rear diffuser and other body trim is correct. The GT appearance package adds the hood scoop and pony intake cover. The scuff plates where changed out for Shelby ones, but the factory ones would have just said Mustang. The car has other mods done to it, but again run the vin on the Ford window sticker site to get the answer you are looking for. I know for my year Black/Parchment is rare.

Hope this helps.

Funny, the reverse lights go all the way across the tail lights...I haven't seen that before.

They also came with 18" wheels, the carbon fiber look dash trim and 3.55 gears

You are correct, I had just never seen one with a stick before and someone had told me they were all autos so I believed him. That'll teach me.
I guess they were just like the GT's. 331 w/auto and 355 w/5 spd. according to the link above.
