EXHAUST HELP!!!!

I have a 2007 Mustang GT with flowmaster outlaws. They are very loud and have deep muscle car sound to them. My buddy and I were talking the other day and he was saying they sounded nice, but would be even louder if I did a resonator delete...is this true? Where is the resonator on the 2007 Mustang GT?

They're right before the bend in the pipes that go over your rear axle. You can spot them because they are a little fatter than the rest of the pipe. Basically, you'll need someone to cut them out and weld pipe back in.

I'll tell you what sounds nice though - stock midpipe with the Roush Extreme cat back system. It's basically just resonators and tips, no mufflers.

From Google I'm not finding anything on them. I mean I know the 10-14 had the resonator on right before the muffler but I don't see them anywhere on the 05-09 mustang . Did ford not have resonators for these years ??

Then apparently mine wasn't stock (bought it used) and someone added the resonators. From the pics you posted, there doesn't appear to be any.

Yes so weird. I always thought they had them. Now I know for sure the 10-14 does. Can anyone confirm that the 05-09 doesn't have them?

Ya, well looking at your picture your whole exhaust system looks custom. Hell even looks like you have some sort of X-Pipe

Nah, that's not a pic of my 07's exhaust. I don't have it any longer, so I found something that looked like mine.

No resonators.....

For some reason people confuse catalytic converters and resonators and just call everything resonators. Which is not correct.... Ask your buddy if he actually meant resonators or if he really meant the catalytic converters. There IS a difference.

If it turns out he means the catalytic converters then yes without them there it will be louder.

That doesn't make much sense since a resonator deadens the sound :/

Which is why I went with the Roush Extreme cat back system. No sound deadened there.

Just very Strange most people remove resonators and straight pipe it. Who would add resonator on the 05-09 when one is not included from factory. Doh. Weirdest thing I ever heard

Well, I traded in the 07 for a 2013 California Special - which I put Roush axle backs on first thing. Any way, I loved the extremes. Definitely woke that car up. Kept the stock h-pipe and it sounded great. Nice and deep.

Just Ford's design for the 5.0 Mustangs.

Yeah a little, but mostly tames the nasty rasp and other undesirable sounds (especially on the 3v).

It's somewhat common, look on YouTube. After going cat-less, I did it too. Too much rasp and 2500 RPM sounded like WOT... That to me, is ricey. Resonators made it much deeper and cleaned up the tone paired with my Borla S-Types.

Resonators have been around a long time for a reason.

I've got Roush axelbacks currently (duh), but debating on some extremes, my coworkers told me that if I ever change the exhaust on my car they'd take exhaust pipes and use my head as a baseball...
In other words they a VERY VERY opposed to the idea of changing the exhaust...

Great information totally makes sense. At least for my 2007 Mustang GT I don't need a resonator delete

Previous owner did state that he put on an o/r x-pipe at one time, so that's probably why he put in the resonators.

Do you still have cats? Are you cammed? If you think your setup is "loud" now... you haven't heard loud.

You don't have resonators to begin with so I don't understand that last bit. And btw I have the same engine as you.
