5.0? Vs Supercharger?

Hey guys, I have been toying with the notion of getting out of my 4.6 and going for an early year 5.0 (2011-2012). Don't get me wrong, I really like my current car, but I'm not sure if supercharging it would be cost effective vs getting into something that already has the power I'm looking for. Thoughts?

I made the jump from the 4.6 to the 5.0 and love it. But as I look back I wish I would have kept the 4.6 for my daily driver.

Yes that is a very hard ?? I've been thinking the same I like the sound of a supercharged engine but with a 4.6 you can only push so much hp unless you put money into bottom end. That's that problem with the 5.0 you get more hp yes but that's a big change you have just changed what the car came with some people say that's bad . Wow it is a hard ?? Both things cost lots of money. I wonder how much hp can you get out of the 5.0 ?? I'm sure what I've said here does not help sorry. 😊

Yeah, I'm just not entirely sure if I really want the 5.0, as I've already put some $ into my 4.6. I thought maybe if I keep it, I either supercharge it, or keep it n/a and toss some cams in it, and maybe swap out the intake manifold for the ford racing one. Still debating on that one lol.

I see. Well, time to start looking some more. I'm thinking 11-12, I think that has the potential for a more aggressive looking style than the 13's.

Just boost 3v and have a new bottom end ready that's what I did. Love the face on 5.0 owners every time the BOV hits them on the freeway

OP, you have a chassis right now. Do you like anything about that year model or would you like the newer one better? If you like what you have, have you considered swapping the 5.0 aluminator crate engine into your chassis (transmission too)? Yeah, it will be more of a pain to do as opposed to simply slapping on a blower or simply trading it in and whatnot and it will likely cost many times that of the blower, but in the end you would have something different, rarer, it would be a better starting platform, insurance would be what it is now unless you want to add the conversion to your insurance claim policy, and you would have no additional loan to think about for the next 3-7 years based on what you finance for (unless you have stacks sitting around in wait for your decision).

I'm probably gonna get some flak for this but, I coyote swapped my 05 a few months ago and while I really like the new motor I still wish I would of went with a big turbo.

I think the coyote is at best mildly over-hyped. But that's just one mans opinion.

You have details of your swap? Pics? How much did it end up running you?

Bc yours isn't setup right. I don't even have to use my nitrous system on cars making 500 rwhp and under.

I'll send you a pm if you are considering the swap. I first bought the motor from a wrecked F150; turns out buying the motor was the easy (and cheap) part. Buying a 2011 is the route I would take after all that lol.

She is setup correctly, Lund tune and all. I'll have to find a boosted 3v at a local track and get back to ya. Maybe she is faster then she feels?

The intriguing thing I've seen is the 3V swapped with a coyote/aluminator motor. That's pretty genius, but doesn't seem all that cost effective. You wind up having to pay someone who knows how to do it (because I don't lol), find a motor, find a transmission?, make sure you have all the necessary parts accompanying the motor. Just seems easier supercharging, or turbo, my 4.6 and put down 400rwhp and be happy.

I don't need any more than that, I think that is plenty power for me. I'm not looking to race the car, or anybody else for that matter lol. Seems a helluva lot easier than to swap. Hell, even buying a new 5.0 would be easier lol, given the right financial situation.

You surely already know the 5.0 in the f150 is different than the one in the mustang right? Different heads, cams, intake, cr, etc.

Yup, that's all been dealt with. All I'm missing is the piston cooling jets or something like that. Everything else is dealt with.

Take off cams and intakes are easy enough to come by. The issue is my expectations were set too high lol.

Like I said your just not setup correctly. With my 440 on Motor. I pull on boosted 3v's making 500 That 8krpm is something they do not know what to do with. A small flip of a switch makes them really wish they would have stayed in the prius game

Lund is good but it will take some datalogs to get good. 80% of the cars out there have the same mods that go to him. So he will send you thr same tune as everyone else just for your pcm code. Then after the datalog he will make it for your car.

Gear choice, intake choice all make a difference when na

I do just have the generic tune. I have the laptop with Live link downloaded, just need to get on that soon. Is it a pretty considerable difference; generic vs data logged?

I'll take a look at her again tonight and see if I've over looked something. Sounds like she should be hauling *** and I have actually missed something.

It's all stock at the moment except a modified x pipe and my mufflers from the previous 3v exhaust. I got the mustang intake, cams, and headers from the same person on Craigslist.

Thinking about what you've been saying I'm pretty sure what the problem is.. I'll test it out when I get home and get back to ya.

What about gear ratio? Would the stock 3.55 on a 5 speed make it seen less responsive?
