absolute best engine oil?

Depends on what you have done to your car, since some oils are more mod friendly than others...
But for the best oil on a stock engine it's amsoil...

From what I understand Amsoil is the only (or one of the only) true synthetics left.

That being said I've always used Mobil 1 with good results.

Yeah Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is usually in the top spot for any test I've seen.

I've had great luck running Motorcraft oil and filter.

Everyone's going to have their own opinion though.

There's nothing wrong with non full synthetic oils, which most motorcraft is a synthetic blend, a lot of car manufactures have them as the recommended oil to use...
Hell, We use regular Pennzoil in our Porsche...

number 1 oil to use, like someone said above, is any new oil. (meaning change your oil regularly). make sure its API approved and has that seal, (by a reputable brand) decide if you want to go synthetic or regular.

other than that, I use motorcraft oil and filter on mine. 156k miles and still strong. i think the previous owners claimed mobil 1, but i found a fram filter on it when i bought it. :/

I have a buddy that tells me his uncle had a 3.0 ford ranger that hit 400k miles only using castrol gtx (non synthetic) with regular oil changes. but im sure every ones friends, buddys, coworkers uncle had a car with half a million miles on it.

synthetic is supposed to stay cleaner longer. Valvoline, in an interview with lab techs that work for the company, they stated that the company views the synthetic line as a more premium oil, and puts more detergents and additives in it, making it a better quality for the engine. Im sure more companies do that as well.

back in the day, (70s, maybe 80s) anyone using quaker state ended up sludging their engines. today, they follow standards to prevent that from happening. so the only real difference between any of them is going to be "How high above the standard they are".
I'm sure the standard is just to keep emmissions in check with daily use street vehicles.

If you race, you wanna do more research.

This is like asking what's the best cola. Like what was said, the best kind is new oil regularly. There's too much marketing and hype in oil. If I believed the experts, especially the ones on tv at 2 in the morning, I would run straight duralube in my motor.
When I was younger, I spent extra making sure my car had the "best". Many years later and since never having a motor blow up, even using "cheap" oil but changed often,
I have less problems paying my bills because I "splurged" on more expensive fluids in my cars.

From my experience, Royal Purple has been great. I used to use Mobil1 with Lucas, but now I run nothing buy Royal Purple. Haven't had any issues and it always comes out almost the same as when I put it in.

I just cant bring myself to spend that much on oil. But mine is all stock internals, and i dont really push it to its limits. If i did, then Id be much more inclined to spend the money on it.

Nah seriously tho, I use the motorcraft because i trust it. But i have heard good things about Redline oil, and redline products in general.

Still hear good things about super tech. Not yet willing to put that in my engine. i sleep better at night with the motorcraft.
