Gauge cluster

Today the speedometer on my 05 gt stopped working, but the rest of the gauges seem ok, I disconnected the battery and reconnected it but it's still not working. Has this happened to anybody else or does anybody know how to fix the problem.

This has come up several times in the past. I had it happen to me and found an alternate to the Ford fix. Mine was a 2005 as well. Look back for the fix. It was around 2008 but it was in Must
tang Evolution and was a lengthy thread.

I don't know about the code but the cluster problem was something I experience. I searched the threads but couldn't find it. I do know that there are plenty of utube videos available that may help you. I'll continue to search for the thread I created or helped with and if I find it I will send it. Hope this helps

Re: 2005 gt cluster gauge repair...

I'm new to this forum, but have experience with the gauge cluster issues you are having. My '05 GT cluster started failing around 34,000 miles. My temp gauge went first it would work one day and not the next. I filled up the gas tank and the gauge went well past full it would vary day to day. The oil gauge dropped like a rock at around 6k rpms, shut down ! Started again and it was reading correctly. I also found the cluster gauges were making a louder noise than usual when going to "zero" when shutting down.

The cause turned out to be bad"stepper motors"....they are known to be defective on the 2005 models. There is an upgraded motor available that fixes this issue. I found mine at digitalguy_1@charter.net if you are handy with a soldering iron you can replace all the steppers in under 2 hours. Maybe more if you are not that handy.

There are several guys on E-BAY listing this stuff, you can also find a good video posted on one of the forums(don't remember the forum).Just google "ford mustang stepper motors" there will be quite a few references posted.

Good luck!

Re: Make Ford recall these problems!!! ...800-392-3673

OK Mr. bryanbrock, I thought my post would encourage a little research but it only encouraged doubt and sarcasm. I researched other forums and found several threads regarding the 2005 cluster problem. There's a similar thread, even on this forum, which addressed the same problem last month that even you, bryanbrock, chimed in about.
For those of you who have a cluster problem with your 2005 mustang or most GM products and don't want to fork over $800 to Ford, there are alternatives. Again, I can't speak for their honesty or integrity but one is
Mr Speedometer Inc

Their latest statement on their site was the following:
New! 2005 Mustang - Symptoms: Speedometer and other gauges not working. Repair Cost $169:
Also available on You Tube, if you are handy with a soldering gun, there's a do it yourself video. Good luck...I wish I had researched this before I paid Ford $800 to do the work. Do you need anything else Bryanbrock?
Thanks, Bobby
