Mods!!!!

So I recently installed my axleback exhaust and I love the sound! I am now looking into what I should do next I'm looking to spend right now anywhere between 400-500 on something but idk what. I saw that AM has some SR performance lowering springs for pretty cheap but I don't know much about them. And also in my search I saw some Pacesetter LT headers for real cheap so I figured that had to be crappy if they are that cheap, same with the MAC LT headers. I was thinking about getting the SCT SF4 tuner but I'm not modded at all! I'm just trying to get thoughts and opinions any advice helps! Thanks

Even if you are not modded, the SCT Tuner will still be the best bang for your buck. You will still get some better performance even though you are stock. Plus, it is best to get this first as most bolt ons you do later you will need the tuner to update the ecu. Such as Long Tube headers or Gears.

So you are saying that a good tuner should be the first thing to get to upgrade our cars? Mine is bone stock as well and was looking for my first upgrade too.

Mods!!!!

Yes, tuner should be nĂºmero uno, always. Before exhaust or CAI or anything, a tuner is always the first mod you should buy.

For sure. Because the tuner is a very valuable resource once you start modding. Whoever you go with, usually provides tune revisions for a bit, or AM which is a "for life" subscription.

With the tuner you can datalog, clear trouble codes, read trouble codes, view your Air/Fuel ratio as well as other things, you can update your gear ratio or tire size, etc.

It does much more then load a tune. And yes, even on a stock setup, you can still tune it and get decent benefits. I would hit up AM Will or Alex if you have any questions on the tuner device or tunes specific and they can get you squared away.

The only thing I would suggest is don't buy a used one. Sometimes this can pay off but the savings won't be much and it will be ALOT of headache. Trust me. Buy the $400 tuner with tunes and use the AM forum code if you have it to knock off ~$20.

Edit - Just saw you had 29 posts. Get it up to 50 and AM will hook you up with a forum code to save $$ on their website.

I've been wanting to get the SCT tuner for awhile and my buddy keeps trying to talk me out of it to get a dyno tune. I was gonna wait to do CAI and tuner at the same time but I think I'm gonna go with the tuner and worry about everything else afterwards

You will get the most from a CAI with a tuner. So you will want the tuner first anyways. The thing about dyno tuning is, if you change stuff after the tune, you will have to eventually go back to the dyno again. Sometimes costing even more.

Some dynos charge pretty hefty for a single tune. Maybe use the SCT while you mod then once you are done, then get it dyno'd.

Thanks guys! I've broken it down to SCT tuner or bama tuner idk which one to get because AM does free tune updates for life for bama. Also my other option I was thinking about doing was get a 62mm throttle body and get a performance throttle body spacer. I'm leaning pretty hard towards the tuner tho and get the throttle body and spacer afterwards ! But thank you all for the good info and feedback!

Well the SCT Tuner is the device itself, the Vendor (Bama, Steeda, MPT, etc), is the company who's tunes go on the device. So if you bought from AM, you would get an SCT Tuner with Bama tunes. If you bought the SCT Tuner from MPT, you would get MPT tunes loaded on it. Etc.

Also, a spacer isn't going to do really anything. So save your money there.

---------- Post added at 07:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:06 PM ----------

I'm still interested as to why those pacesetter lt headers and Mac lt headers are so cheap , are they just crap? Haha

Late to the show, but tuner. Then when you start considering springs, there is more to it than that. Look into struts/shocks/gt500 mounts/uca/lca with relocation kit/panhard bar, all to do it the right way. It makes no sense to throw on springs just to mess up the geometry of everything.

You'll still need the tuner even with a dyno tune. If your doing piece meal mod's then go with a generic tune (ie: AMR Bama, Breenspeed) until your done with all your mod's then go with a dyno tune if you want to totally optimize your mod's.

First mods I'd recommend

- Short throw shifter
( Steeda / MGW )
- 4:10 Gears ( Ford )
+ SCT Handheld tuner
( To correct Speedo for Gears , and also just help you have better throttle response , pick up a couple Horses ..)

- Suspension .. I always recommend H&R .. I would deff spend the extra on better brands because let's face it .. you don't want to cheap out on suspension.

Lowering will throw off the geometry of the car .. so some good Struts / Strut mounts / Shocks / CC Plates would be smart to go along when lowering.. and a good alignment.

Throttle body & Spacer would be a waste right now ..

Pacesetter Longtubes have good fitment , and just as good as any other brand .. if your worried about them being steel or painted .. go ahead and have them heat coated.

People usually slap on the GT500 stock throttle body afterwards , they seem to be the best bang for the buck when coming to throttle body upgrades ..

Also some Charge motion deletes as well would be ideal ..
I hear they help out some.

It would be smart to just buy a used unlock sct tuner (XP +)
They usually go for 150.. and a email single tune is usually 75 ..
That's 225.. VS spending 400 on a new one to only get Bama tunes as a start ..
Just a suggestion

I'm pretty sure i might buy an sct x4 tuner off eBay from a company that's unlocked for 300 where should I get custom tunes from tho? I'm pretty sure it'll come with 2 tunes already on it

The X3 / X4 tuner is the same thing .. one is just fancier .. they serve the same purpose .. just uploading tunes and reading engine codes and data logging , etc.

I wouldn't trust ebay , I'd try to find one local to know forsure its unlocked ..

Bama isn't known for good tunes .. just a tip.

Blow by racing , Lund , more power tuning , etc. Are what most people go to after dealing with Bama tunes.

It's not from a private seller on eBay it's like a company that uses eBay to sell products. And to get custom tunes from any of those places would I email them and buy them or what cuz I know u can email it and usb it to the tuner just kinda wondering how to go about getting a tune from them

You fill a page out saying what's done , they make a custom tune and email it to you , you upload the file into the sct software and upload it to the handheld and upload it to your car.. simple

Because the SCT tuner can only be unlocked (ie: changed vehicles) 5 times before it gets permanently locked and you have to pay and send it back to SCT to unlock it.

Looking for the 'easy button' and prefer a tune that is backed by someone, like AM, that will fix it if it fails. I get the anyone can get a sct device but not interested with dealing bafoons on ebay...
