Valve rattle/ Ping

05 Gt XCT tuner, pypes exhaust. It did this before i had the tuner just not this bad. I have a seriously loud valve rattle or a pinging noise. its at half to WOT with a partial load on the car ( accelerating). Bama got me a new tune in order to run ethenol 93 octane. not as bad but it is still their race tune or economy. its enough to make you immediately let off the gas. I have ready a lot of forums with what sounds similar and they all head off in other directions. I can tell you for sure it is NOT the trunk liner, exhaust hangers, change in the door jams, a loose screw behind the dash, etc etc. it is for sure valve rattle or ping. i tried higher octane and non ethanol, ( both help but dont make it go away) . i like to open her up but this deters me from doing so often.

Go back to the stock tune and see if it gets better... If it's still there but not as bad I would look at plugs and so on...

I don't think my year has one. But I know exactly what your talking about. My timing is only set with a tuner. I'm going to have to use the Gen 2 data log. And record some runs. Look out back roads to bad it's deer season. May get an unwanted suspension and steering test.

Cannot run stock tune. Have air raid race intake car won't even idle.

I think that the vehicle in OP's signature confused you into thinking that his question was regarding a 95, when he is actually asking about an 05.

Have you checked for any trouble codes? There may be a code even though your CEL isn't lit.

I have a stock 08 gt.. My car is doing something similar. When I tach it up it makes this strange noise.. I bought the car used. It has about 50,000 miles on it. I have put about 4,000 miles on the car. When I first got it i used regular gas.. It ran fine sounded nice at high rpm's.. For no reason I decided to start running super gas at the pumps.. Not sure if this is a result of the noise I hear.. I haven't taken anywhere yet to have it looked at.

I've been actually working with bama to fix a very similar problem. My v2 tunes started pinging early spring when temps got hotter. After data logging I found I was running lean. Switched to a 91 race tune with 93 octane. I'm on my 3rd revision and its 95% fixed but I'm trying to work out a final ping or rattle that happens at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle while under load. It will ping/rattle when shifting to 3rd or 4th. Funny thing is that it won't usually happen with WOT runs. Just under a slightly heavy acceleration with a hill or something to give a little load. Hoping to datalog more soon and catch it.

Valve rattle/ Ping

Good information, what would you recommend since I don't have a tuner?
I went back to regular gas.

If it's un-tuned, you should be running regular 87. I would make sure your fuel filter has been changed. I would also do an idle relearn/ecu reset.

Thanks for the advise. Can you recommend where to get instructions to do the idle relearn Ecu reset. I did google it. Saw some info on some forums.. But not sure if they are correct..

Here's what I've done in the past for ECU reset:
turn the car off
disconnect the negative terminal from the battery
turn the car to run
let it sit for 20 minutes
turn the car back off
reconnect the negative terminal
turn the car on and let it idle for a few minutes
it should take 50 or more miles to relearn everything
