I'm down near the coastal bend around Port Lavaca and see very few police but I don't drive much at night. As to the radar I'll let other's who own one give you the "latest scoop". Nice pony.

Escort or Valentine models are at the top of the performance ladder. I have an Escort Passport 9500ix in my Mustang and an Escort Redline on my bike. I prefer the Escort models because they have an earphone jack that I can plug directly into my motorcycle's communication system. With the Valentines, you need to by a $50 adapter.

It used to be that the Valentine 1 had the advantage of the directional arrows over the Escort products, but the latest Escort has them now too. I'm guessing Valentine's patent has expired.

I was a motor officer, traffic unit...for 20 years and recently retired. I used a Pro Laser 3 and a Stalker dual DSR direction sensing radar with front and rear antennas.
I NEVER FAILED TO GET A LASER SPEED READING ON A VEHICLE. and I'm sure many of them had so called "jammers" lol!
I issued over 10k citations...most always for at LEAST 15 over the limit. Don't want to be a hypocrite and 15 is reasonable....on the interstate I would often bump that up to 20 over or make it a triple digit day....only big fish at 100+ mph..... And why not?.... If you do the job and that's all you do, I promise those are out there and quite frequent. Why hassle with the lower numbers and the inevitable arguement with the driver about whether he was really going 85 in a 70 when you can chase down a 105 in a 70 and know you're delivering the goodies to the people that really earned it. Just like fishing...
Now that I'm no longer immune and my anal-ness about driving has faded..and I'm in a completely different part of the country...
My main defense against NO tickets.....mod er ation!
Know when to have fun and how far to push it.... And know absolutely when and where you had better drive right.
It's worked for 5 years so far. My wife tho.....not so much.
Here's a tip...as a traffic cop...if I got you well over the limit....and I saw you were running a detector....instant ticket.
It just says..hey!, I speed ALL THE TIME and I usually think I get away with it because of my magic detector. All they are is a $20 dollar bill sitting on your dash for some punk to bust your window, take and sell for some cash.
- if your laser detector goes off....it means it's too late, they have your speed already, whether they chase depends on what they're current threshold might be for the time and place.

Here is my radar set I use with front and rear antennas. Moving and same direction and gets them every time. I also have access to a pro laser set but since you can't shoot it through the glass I'm not rolling down my window this time of year in Maryland. Lol. Too darn cold.

Way to not get a ticket, don't speed. No amount of money into detectors and jammers is going to save you if you are driving like an asshat.

Not saying don't have fun and punch it on a straightaway or keep up with traffic going 80mph on the highway but its the idiots doing 90+ or 100 on the highway or the guy going 70 all the way along a 45 or 55mph county road that I'm looking at.

Agreed, I don't put much faith in laser, but radar detection has saved me a number of times. My most satisfying save was early in the morning traveling through Washington state on my motorcycle. As I approached a small rise in the road my Escort Red Line went ape-***** full-scale Ka band. Eased off the throttle (had been doing about 70 in a 55) and braked to 55. Came over the hill and couldn't immediately spot the source of the radar. Finally about 500+ yards away I saw the trooper in the shade of a large tree on the opposite side of the road. I cruised by on the double nickel as he gave me some real stink eye as he watched me go by. I was the only other vehicle on the road.

Radar jammers are illegal under federal law, but laser jammers are not specifically banned. Nine states have state laws specifically banning laser jammers: California, Utah, Texas, Colorado, Minnesota, Illinois, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Virginia. Radar detectors are legal in the aforementioned states (Excluding Virginia).

Do not go with the V1 it's over hyped. When there are better detectors. At night cops use a RDD radar detector detector called the sprectre. It's job is to sniff out commercial vehicles that have a radar detector which in commercial vehicles they are illegal. The v1 can be detected I know I've seen it first hand in a police car. Kids thinking they are super slick it's not. You need a detector that is stealth such as the bel magnum or the best REDLINE. It used a metal casing that doesn't allow any energy to come out so its stealth. And the range is much better to. Goto radar Roy.com do some research or goto YouTube and look up v1 vs redline or v1 vs max max 2 max 360 and watch it loose to these superior dectetors. Don't believe what I say look it up. It's as simple as a keystroke.

I've had great luck running an Escort 9500ix for the last 5 years or so... Only one ticket and got nailed by laser the day I put my car away for winter. Yesterday I went out and got the new Escort 360 Max. It seems like a great unit but coupled with your smart phone via Bluetooth running Escort Live I think it's unstoppable. Already today I got notified of a radar trap on my route home and picked up the police. So far so good....
