2006 GT thoughts

Hey everyone, some of you may or may not know me. But I have a 2003 GT and am a very active member in the 99-04 forum. Friday morning a mom coming home from work fell asleep at the wheel and totaled my car IN MY DRIVEWAY. Not in the street or even near it. I have been looking at an 06 GT and wanted opinions and thought on them for those that have it. Are they any good. Any problems. It's an auto with 120k on the clock. It's dark blue and is all leather interior new brakes bearings rims and tires. Regular synthetic oil changes. Nice tint. no kids and non smoker. What are yalls thoughts and feelings toward this year. Anything to look out for or any gotchas?

Aside from the obvious signs of maintenance (or lack of) there have been TSB's issued over the years. A google search will find most of those.

I have heard of a water leak issue inside the cabin. The weatherstripping got pinched or wasn't sealed completely near the cowl and allowed water to leak into the passenger side floor. It's even been severe enough to affect electrical components if not addressed. Definitely check the passenger area for dampness or replaced carpet.

Another is pinion seal issues. A buddy of mine has an 06 5spd GT with 80k miles and he just had his pinion seal replaced. Apparently it has been replaced before. He knows other 05-09 owners and they've had to do multiple replacements.

Overall the 3V engine is pretty solid. I wouldn't hesitate to own one as long as proper maintenance was done. The 5R55S auto wasn't terrible. Don't know of any major recalls but there may have been some TSB's issued. Test drive it thoroughly, pay attention to any slips, delays, hesitations or noises.

Good luck and be sure to give us an update after checking it out!

Yea I have seen the problems with it. I wanted to see if anyone had those problems first hand. It doesn't seem like this year mustang has many fans. No one is really active here

If it was me, I would probably shoot for an 09, but I don't know if that fits into your budget.

07 added the AUX port for audio
sometime 08 they fixed the 2 piece plugs

Pinion seal is the only issue I've had with my two. Very happy with both of them.

07 at 50k miles

Every day is a joyride.

I've got 88k on my '06 and the only issue I've had was the parking brake cable snapped so I had to replace the assembly. No pinion seal issue.

I guess we can close this one down. If you didn't catch my post on the new edge forums, my car is being fixed. My mother in law has a lot of pull in insurance. It's her job. Thanks everyone who posted!
