3.73's vs. 3.55's

I have an 08 GT. I believe the stock gears are 3.55 but not sure. I picked up a set of 3.73 gears for $50. Is it worth having them installed? What kind of difference can I expect ? Thanks !!!

I think the 3.55s are great. I don't think there would be enough difference to pay for them to be dropped in.

I just feel like the car is kind of slow at take off. Doesn't have that quick jump at the start. Not sure if 3.73's would give it a quicker take off or not. Just starting to do stuff to this car so I have a long way to go. Just thought the gears might be a good start.

If you have an automatic.........I'd stick with the OE gears........if you have a 5spd manual the 3:73's will make the car more fun to drive.........I had a 97 Cobra which came stock with 3:23"s.........changed to the 3:73's and the car was more responsive and just a ton more fun to drive..........IMHO

Ordering New Nitto NT555's next payday as a matter of fact. TireBuyer.com has great prices !!! I still have about 50% Tread on my Bridgestone Potenza ZRF's so maybe I should test the gears with those tires 1st. Only buying the Nitto's cause I want to go from a 285 Rear to a 305. Guess I should order the install kit for the 3.73's too !

I just had my 3.73's installed in my '07 auto. The change from the 3.31's was very noticeable, and I can really get out of the hole quickly. Some of my sluggishness before may be related to my altitude (mile high), but light to light is a lot more fun now.

In 2008, all autos and manuals came stock with 3.31's. Only the Premium trim had an optional 3.55 with the manual only. I'm not sure if it would be worth the money to jump from 3.55's, but it would be from the 3.31's.

Just my $.02. Good luck.

Doubt it.

Jack the rear of your car up and count the revolutions of your tires per revolution of the DS.

By any chance did you count the teeth? 41 on the Ring & 11 on the Pinion on 3.73's.
They should also be stamped on the Pinion if it's FRPP.

Driveshaft 3.73 times per one single revolution of the wheel I believe.

Any 4.6 that is NA should get 4.10s. Except 96-98 Cobras, those should get 4.30s. Don't fear the gear.

My 97 Cobra had 3.23's from the factory and switched to 3.73's....it seemed to wake the car up and made it more fun to drive.....with the 5spd anything more just didn't seem good....until I put the 6spd...then 4.10's felt just right.

Not sure how many teeth are on the 3.27 gears. If you divide the number of teeth on the ring by the number of teeth on the pinion it gives you your gear ratio.

Well guys....Thanks for the input. I decided to go a different route for now. I traded in the 08 today for a 2014 GT Premium. Hope I got a fair deal. Car looks brand new. Has 22 K on it. Price was $30,000. $555 mo for 6 years. I see the 2016 is about $37000 so I was guessing that $30 was fair for a 2014.

3.73's vs. 3.55's

That was the smarter route especially knowing the history of your 08. The 14 is a much higher starting point for modding than your 08 in fact I'm not sure any amount of money you threw at the 08 would it equal the performance of a 14 with a few boltons. Well congratulations on your new car the price seems inline with what they go for post some pics as soon as you can

The dealer is doing a complete detail & oil change, etc. I pick it up after work Monday.
I'll post a few pics then. I sure like all the extra dash features that don't come on an 08.
I think the car may have a tune. At idle it lopes a little....maybe a ghost cam tune.
The little Fuzion they gave me as a loaner is pretty cool too. I was surprised at how nice they are.

I love it. The difference between the 2008 4.6L & the 2014 5.0 is so different. A lot more power. I kicked it in the butt this morning at the top of an exit ramp to the freeway just to see what it would do. All of a sudden it just took off & I said oh boy better hold on. Hit 90 before the bottom of the ramp & had to let off the gas before merging onto the freeway. All the things this car does that the 08 didn't. I think Ford did a great job designing these cars. I love the My Color Gauges in these cars. You can make the gauge color any color you want...same with the Halo's on the Head lights. Just so much more in these cars.
Anyone know what the model # is for the 11-14? Now I've had 4-5 SN95's, 2- New Edges, 1-S197 & whatever this one is. I guess I'm Hooked on Mustangs.
