2008 Auto GT Input shaft failure
Hello there. I have a stock 2008 GT automatic with 57,000kms (35,000 miles) on it. The first input shaft snapped inside the torque converter at 40,000kms. I was driving 100km/h (60mph) and punched it to pass a car. It dropped to 3rd gear and with no warning, bang. Warranty covered that. At 48,000kms and a year later, I was driving 60km/h and pushed the throttle about 1/4 of wide open. When it shifted from 3rd to 4th, the input shaft snapped inside the torque converter again . No warranty this time. I bought a new tranny and new torque. Replaced myself. Took it on a 9,000 km road trip last summer. Halfway through the trip it felt like the it was staying in 3rd gear to long and would slam into 4th gear with a clunk, as well as make the sound of a hammer hitting a bell/or torque converter in my opinion. I finally figured out at which rpm it took to not make the noise or clunk/bang while shifting 3rd to 4th and drove it 4,000km home manually shifting it. Any idea what this problem could be? I have not go a straight answer from anyone and haven't driven it since last fall due to winter. I'd like to get it back out, but I'm afraid of snapping that input shaft again. I have owned this car since it was almost new with no other problems. Any advice and or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
