Replace 20" tires with 17, 18, 19"??

Running 20's(came w/ car) that are just about new, don't like the wheels, but should i replace w/ smaller/stock size when tires wear out?

Mine had some generic 20 chrome wheels on it when I got it. I replaced them with 18. 17 look too small. And at the time 19 tires were expensive, not sure about the price/selection of 19 tires now. For me 20 seemed like too much rim and not enough tire.
