I'm in between right now, I have a coilover kit but I'm undecided to use and if its too much for what I need it for daily driver. Springs had always served me well since I never went for the slammed look. So I didn't blow my stock shocks out.
Most people just go the Eibach route and I'm thinking similiar.
If you are on a budget, there is nothing wrong with springs instead of coilovers. You don't have to change the shocks right away but if you have the cash, it's a good idea since you are likely to blow the OEM shocks when you are using lowering springs (since they are not meant to compress that much on a regular basis).
I run Ford Racing "P" springs, which drops the car only 1". It's still completely comfortable on the street but provides much better corner carving than the stock springs. Looks much better too.
Don't forget the panhard bar at a minimum - it's almost always necessary with any drop.
